قرر المرشح لرئاسة الاتحاد السعودي لكرة القدم داود المقرن، الانسحاب من سباق الانتخابات، مؤكداً لـ«عكاظ» أنه فوجئ بحصول قائمته على تأييد 28 نادياً قبل بدء حملته الانتخابية، معتبراً ذلك دليلاً على رغبة الأندية في مشروع تطويري أكثر من ارتباطها بالأسماء.
وأوضح المقرن أنه اتخذ قرار الترشح بعد التأكد من استيفائه جميع الشروط النظامية، واضعاً نصب عينيه تقديم مشروع مؤسسي يهدف إلى تطوير كرة القدم السعودية والاستفادة من الكفاءات الوطنية، مشيراً إلى أنه اختار قائمة تضم شخصيات تمتلك خبرات كلاعبين وإداريين وفنيين، إلى جانب التأهيل الأكاديمي والخبرة العملية.
وشدد على أن المرحلة القادمة تمثل أهمية كبيرة للكرة السعودية، قائلاً: «لا أتحمل أن يخرج الكأسان القادمان من وطني العزيز»، في إشارة إلى الاستحقاقات الكبرى التي تستضيفها المملكة خلال السنوات القادمة.
وكشف المقرن أن قائمته تلقت دعماً من 28 نادياً في الجمعية العمومية قبل انطلاق الحملة الانتخابية، لكنه قرر الانسحاب لاحقاً بسبب ظروف خاصة خارجة عن إرادته، مؤكداً في الوقت ذاته دعمه الرئيس القادم، لأن الهدف الأسمى هو مصلحة الكرة السعودية.
وانتقد المقرن صمت وزارة الرياضة تجاه ما أثير حول الانتخابات، قائلاً إن غياب التوضيح الرسمي أسهم في اتساع دائرة الجدل، مضيفاً: «صمت وزارة الرياضة يدعو للريبة، وكان من الممكن طمأنة الوسط الرياضي ببيان يبدد هذه التصورات إن كانت غير صحيحة».
كما دعا إلى إجراء تعديلات على النظام الأساسي للاتحاد السعودي لكرة القدم، أبرزها توسيع عضوية الجمعية العمومية لتشمل جميع الأندية، وإعادة النظر في شروط الترشح لرئاسة الاتحاد بما يضمن امتلاك المرشحين خبرات رياضية وإدارية أكبر، تتناسب مع أهمية المنصب.
واختتم حديثه بالتأكيد على ضرورة استقلالية لجنة الانتخابات، متسائلاً: «كيف للجنة تفحص ملفات أحدهم سيكون رئيساً عليهم بعد أيام؟»، في إشارة إلى أهمية تجنب أي تعارض محتمل في المصالح داخل المنظومة الانتخابية.
The candidate for the presidency of the Saudi Football Federation, Dawood Al-Muqrin, has decided to withdraw from the election race, confirming to “Okaz” that he was surprised by his list receiving support from 28 clubs before the start of his election campaign, considering this as evidence of the clubs’ desire for a developmental project more than their attachment to names.
Al-Muqrin explained that he made the decision to run after ensuring that he met all the regulatory requirements, with the aim of presenting an institutional project aimed at developing Saudi football and benefiting from national competencies. He pointed out that he chose a list that includes personalities with experience as players, administrators, and technicians, in addition to academic qualifications and practical experience.
He emphasized that the upcoming phase is of great importance for Saudi football, saying: “I cannot bear for the next two cups to be taken from my dear homeland,” referring to the major events that the Kingdom will host in the coming years.
Al-Muqrin revealed that his list received support from 28 clubs in the General Assembly before the election campaign began, but he later decided to withdraw due to personal circumstances beyond his control, while also affirming his support for the next president, as the ultimate goal is the interest of Saudi football.
He criticized the silence of the Ministry of Sports regarding the issues raised about the elections, stating that the lack of official clarification contributed to the expansion of the controversy, adding: “The silence of the Ministry of Sports raises suspicion, and it would have been possible to reassure the sports community with a statement that dispels these misconceptions if they are incorrect.”
He also called for amendments to the bylaws of the Saudi Football Federation, the most notable of which is to expand the membership of the General Assembly to include all clubs, and to reconsider the conditions for candidacy for the presidency of the federation to ensure that candidates possess greater sports and administrative experience, commensurate with the importance of the position.
He concluded his remarks by emphasizing the necessity of the independence of the election committee, questioning: “How can a committee examine the files of someone who will be their president in a few days?” referring to the importance of avoiding any potential conflict of interest within the electoral system.
