Oil prices rose in today’s trading, driven by a new wave of concern over supply disruptions in the Middle East, despite the noticeable increase in U.S. crude inventories.
In light of this geopolitical tension, the global market continued to respond quickly to any indicators threatening supply balance.
Brent crude recorded additional gains of $1.10, reaching $90.01 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose by 71 cents, or 0.85%, trading at $83.91.
This rise is an extension of the gains made by the two benchmark crudes yesterday (Tuesday), when they closed at their highest level since July 31, following a rise of over a dollar, after a strong jump of about 5% in Monday’s session.
In contrast, data from the American Petroleum Institute revealed a significant increase in U.S. crude oil inventories, which rose by 9.1 million barrels during the week ending August 7, while gasoline inventories fell by about 1.5 million barrels, and distillate stocks decreased by 596,000 barrels, reflecting a divergence in demand within the U.S. market and adding a new layer of complexity to the global oil scene.
