Oil prices jumped by more than a dollar in early trading today (Wednesday), continuing their gains for the fourth consecutive session, amid rising tensions in the Middle East and renewed concerns about energy supplies.

Brent crude futures rose by $1.57, or 1.6%, to $99.49 a barrel by 00:01 GMT, nearing the $100 mark, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures increased by $1.60, or 1.72%, to $94.63 a barrel.

New Escalation in the Region

The jump came after Iran announced new attacks on U.S. military targets in the region, as tensions between Washington and Tehran continued to escalate, impacting energy markets and shipping movements.

The Jordanian Armed Forces announced the interception of 18 out of 20 ballistic missiles launched from Iranian territory, while two missiles fell in uninhabited areas without causing any human casualties.

Strong Gains Since August

Brent crude prices have risen by about 25% since early August, as hopes for a lasting resolution to the conflict have diminished and concerns about disruptions to oil supplies in the region persist.

The gains also followed oil reaching its highest levels in nearly six weeks during the previous session, amid escalating geopolitical risks in the Middle East.
