نجا الدولي الويلزي سوربا توماس، لاعب هال سيتي الإنجليزي، من حادثة سير مروعة بعدما انقلبت سيارته من طراز لاند روفر ديفندر على سقفها في أحد الشوارع السكنية بالقرب من مقر تدريبات النادي، دون أن يتعرض اللاعب لأي إصابات.
وأظهرت صور جرى تداولها عبر مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، صباح اليوم (الجمعة)، السيارة وهي مقلوبة بالكامل على سطحها في شارع Millhouse Woods Lane بمنطقة كوتنجهام، بالقرب من ملعب تدريبات هال سيتي.
ووقعت الحادثة في حوالى الساعة التاسعة صباحًا بالتوقيت المحلي، فيما ظهر أحد أفراد الجهاز الفني للنادي في موقع الحادث، ويُعتقد أنه المدير الفني سيرجي ياكيروفيتش.
هال سيتي يطمئن الجماهير
وسارع نادي هال سيتي إلى طمأنة جماهيره بشأن حالة اللاعب، مؤكدًا أن توماس خرج من سيارته دون أن يصاب بأذى.
وقال النادي في بيان: «يسعد هال سيتي أن يؤكد أن سوربا توماس لم يصب بأذى عقب حادثة سير وقعت بالقرب من مقر تدريبات النادي في كوتنجهام».
وأضاف البيان أن النادي على علم بالصور المتداولة لسيارة اللاعب عبر مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، مؤكدًا أن توماس «لم يتعرض لأي إصابات وخرج من سيارته دون أن يصاب بأذى على الإطلاق».
الشرطة تغلق الطريق
من جانبها، أعلنت شرطة هامبرسايد أن عناصرها وخدمات الطوارئ توجهت إلى موقع حادثة سير في شارع Millhouse Woods Lane بمنطقة كوتنجهام، في نحو الساعة التاسعة صباح الجمعة.
وأكدت الشرطة أن الطريق ظل مغلقًا أمام حركة المرور، مطالبة السائقين بتجنب المنطقة لإتاحة المجال أمام فرق الطوارئ للعمل بأمان وكفاءة.
ويقع الشارع السكني الهادئ ضمن منطقة تفرض فيها سرعة قصوى تبلغ 30 ميلًا في الساعة، وعلى مسافة قريبة جدًا من مركز تدريبات هال سيتي.
تضرر سيارات أخرى
وبعد الحادثة، جرى سحب سيارة توماس من المكان، ما ساعد على إعادة فتح الطريق في الوقت المناسب لمرور حافلة فريق هال سيتي التي كانت تستعد لنقل اللاعبين إلى لندن استعدادًا لمواجهة تشيلسي في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.
وقال فيل ريدشو، عضو المجلس المحلي الذي زار موقع الحادثة، إن سيارتين متوقفتين، إحداهما ميني زرقاء والأخرى سيارة دفع رباعي سوداء، تعرضتا أيضًا لأضرار جراء الحادث.
وأشار ريدشو إلى أن الطريق شهد خلال الفترة الأخيرة «عددًا من الحوادث الوشيكة»، متحدثًا عن مخاوف السكان من عدم التزام بعض السائقين بالقيادة بحذر وانتباه كافيين.
وأضاف أن الشاحنات والحافلات تضطر أحيانًا إلى الصعود على الرصيف من أجل المرور في الطريق.
وكشف ريدشو أنه بعث برسالة إلى سكرتير نادي هال سيتي الأحد الماضي، طالب فيها بتذكير لاعبي الفريق بضرورة توخي الحذر أثناء القيادة في الشارع، في ظل مخاوف السكان، خصوصًا مع انضمام لاعبين جدد إلى الفريق كل موسم.
صفقة بـ10.5 مليون جنيه إسترليني
وكان سوربا توماس، البالغ من العمر 27 عامًا، قد انضم إلى هال سيتي قادمًا من ستوك سيتي في اليوم الأخير من فترة الانتقالات، في صفقة بلغت قيمتها 10.5 مليون جنيه إسترليني.
وخاض اللاعب مباراتين فقط مع فريقه الجديد حتى الآن؛ الأولى انتهت بالتعادل السلبي أمام أستون فيلا في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز، والثانية خسرها هال سيتي أمام سندرلاند بهدف دون رد في كأس رابطة الأندية الإنجليزية «كاراباو».

وتأتي نجاة توماس من الحادثة في وقت يستعد فيه اللاعب لتثبيت أقدامه مع فريقه الجديد، بعد انتقاله المثير للجدل من ستوك سيتي في اليوم الأخير من سوق الانتقالات.
Wales international Sorba Thomas, a player for English club Hull City, escaped a horrific car accident after his Land Rover Defender flipped onto its roof in a residential street near the club’s training ground, with the player suffering no injuries.
Images circulated on social media this morning (Friday) showed the car completely overturned on its roof on Millhouse Woods Lane in the Cottingham area, near Hull City’s training ground.
The incident occurred around 9 AM local time, with a member of the club’s coaching staff appearing at the scene, believed to be head coach Sergei Yakinovich.
Hull City reassures fans
Hull City quickly reassured its fans about the player’s condition, confirming that Thomas exited his vehicle unharmed.
The club stated in a release: “Hull City is pleased to confirm that Sorba Thomas was not injured following a car accident that occurred near the club’s training ground in Cottingham.”
The statement added that the club is aware of the photos circulating of the player’s car on social media, confirming that Thomas “sustained no injuries and got out of his car completely unharmed.”
Police close the road
For its part, Humberside Police announced that its officers and emergency services responded to the car accident on Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham at around 9 AM on Friday.
The police confirmed that the road remained closed to traffic, urging drivers to avoid the area to allow emergency teams to work safely and efficiently.
The quiet residential street is located in an area with a maximum speed limit of 30 miles per hour and is very close to Hull City’s training center.
Other cars damaged
After the incident, Thomas’s car was towed from the scene, helping to reopen the road in time for the Hull City team bus that was preparing to transport players to London for their match against Chelsea in the Premier League.
Phil Redshaw, a local council member who visited the accident site, stated that two parked cars, one a blue Mini and the other a black SUV, also sustained damage from the incident.
Redshaw noted that the road has seen “a number of near misses” recently, expressing concerns from residents about some drivers not adhering to safe and attentive driving practices.
He added that trucks and buses sometimes have to mount the sidewalk to pass through the road.
Redshaw revealed that he sent a message to the Hull City secretary last Sunday, urging a reminder to the team players about the need to drive cautiously in the area, given residents’ concerns, especially with new players joining the team each season.
£10.5 million transfer
Sorba Thomas, 27, joined Hull City from Stoke City on the last day of the transfer window for a fee of £10.5 million.
The player has only appeared in two matches for his new team so far; the first ended in a goalless draw against Aston Villa in the Premier League, and the second saw Hull City lose to Sunderland 1-0 in the Carabao Cup.
Thomas has 27 international caps for Wales and was awarded the Player of the Season at Stoke City last year after contributing to 10 goals and assisting 13 in all competitions.
Hull City prepares to face Chelsea
