“Bessent”: We have plenty of money for a war with Iran… and we will not impose taxes

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that the government has ample funds to finance a war with Iran, but is requesting additional funding from Congress to ensure the military has sufficient supplies in the future.

In an interview with NBC News, Bessent ruled out any pressure to pass tax increases to fund the war.

The U.S. military's request for an additional $200 billion in funding for a potential war with Iran faces strong opposition in Congress, with Democrats and even some Republicans questioning the necessity of such a move after the passage of substantial defense appropriations last year. Bisent defended the funding request without confirming the exact amount.

Additional funding

US President Donald Trump has not yet sent a request to the Senate and House of Representatives to approve this amount, while his administration has indicated that the figure may change.

Bessent added: “We have plenty of money to fund this war, and this is additional funding. President Trump has worked to strengthen the military, as he did in his first term, and as he is doing now in his second term, and he wants to make sure that the military is well supplied in the coming period.”.
