Urgent: The Kingdom opens logistical corridors for containers diverted from eastern ports and Gulf countries

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has officially announced the provision of additional operational corridors to receive containers and diverted goods from ports Eastern Province of the Kingdom and ports of the Gulf countries, to Jeddah port and the rest Kingdom's ports On the Red Sea coast, to ensure the stability of trade routes with regional and global markets.
The announcement coincided with the launch Minister of Transport Logistics and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Ports, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, launched the Logistics Routes Initiative in the ports of the western coast, in the presence of the Governor of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, Suhail bin Mohammed Abanmi, and the President of the General Authority for Ports, Suleiman bin Khalid Al-Mazrou, during a field tour in Jeddah Islamic Port to review the handling operations and supply chains.

Supply chain efficiency

Al-Jasser stressed that the initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of supply chains and facilitate the movement of goods between the Kingdom’s ports, explaining that the ports of the west coast, foremost among them Jeddah Islamic Port, play a pivotal role in accommodating containers diverted from ports located on the Kingdom’s east coast, in addition to receiving shipments coming from the ports of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and reconnecting them to regional and international markets.

He pointed out that the Kingdom’s transport and logistics system has operational readiness and advanced infrastructure that enables it to deal with shifts in global trade routes, and to activate alternative logistics corridors that ensure the continued flow of goods and the stability of supply chains.

Logistics routes

The Governor of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority explained that the Logistics Routes Initiative represents an important step to enhance the integration of customs and logistics procedures between the Kingdom’s ports and the ports of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, stressing that the Authority is working in coordination with the relevant authorities to facilitate the movement of goods and expedite customs clearance procedures in a way that supports the smooth flow of regional and international trade.

Jeddah Islamic Port is the largest hub port on the Red Sea and one of the most prominent logistics centers in the region, while the Kingdom’s ports on the Red Sea coast have a handling capacity of over 18.6 million standard containers annually, which enhances the Kingdom’s ability to support international trade and accommodate shifts in global supply chains.
