In a special celebratory sporting event, His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Sattam bin Saud, Deputy Governor of the Asir Region, presented the Abha Football Club's first team with the Yellow League Cup for First Division Professional Clubs last night, following a challenging season and fierce competition. The official coronation ceremony was held at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Sports City in Al-Mahala, Abha, amidst a large crowd exceeding 2,900 fans, and with the participation of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the First Division Professional Clubs Association, Mr. Talal Al-Obaidi, and a number of officials and prominent sports figures from the region.
Background to the event: Abha's journey towards the title
This title comes as the culmination of a season filled with determination and perseverance for Abha FC. The Yellow First Division League is the main gateway to the Saudi Professional League (Roshan League) and is characterized by fierce competition among clubs aspiring to promotion to the top tier. Abha FC, founded in 1966, secured the title after consistently delivering strong performances and a high level of play, enabling them to quickly return to their rightful place among the Kingdom's elite clubs after their relegation the previous season. This achievement is not the first in the club's history; rather, it adds to a record of both promotion and relegation, reflecting the club's fighting spirit and its unwavering desire to be at the top.
The importance of the achievement and its expected impact
Locally, Abha Club's rise represents a significant morale and economic boost for the Asir region. Having a team representing the region in the prestigious Saudi Professional League (SPL), which has garnered international attention, will contribute to increased sporting and tourism activity in Abha, as the city will host major clubs and international players. This achievement also strengthens the sense of pride and belonging among the region's residents and the club's loyal fans.
At the national level, Abha's return enhances the geographical diversity and competitiveness of the professional league, serving the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 to develop the sports sector throughout the country. This promotion also underscores the strength and depth of competition at all levels of Saudi football.
Royal congratulations and continued support
Prince Khalid bin Sattam congratulated the club's management, technical and administrative staff, and players on this significant sporting achievement, emphasizing that it reflects the hard work and effort exerted throughout the season. His Highness wished the team success in their upcoming matches in the Professional League and continued excellence in representing the Asir region.
For his part, the club president, Mr. Saad Al-Ahmari, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Prince of the Asir region and his deputy for the support and attention that the club and the sports sector in the region receive, stressing that this achievement came through everyone’s cooperation, and will be an incentive to continue working and achieving the aspirations of the club’s fans in the next stage, which will be more challenging.
