The Cabinet approves the organization of the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may God protect him, chaired the Cabinet meeting held today in the capital, Riyadh, where the Council reviewed a number of local, regional and international issues, and issued a number of important decisions that serve the interests of the nation and the citizen, and enhance the Kingdom’s presence on the international stage.

Intense diplomatic activity

At the beginning of the session, the Cabinet was briefed on the content of telephone calls received by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, from several leaders of brotherly and friendly nations, namely Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. These calls reflect the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in promoting regional stability and underscore the depth of the strategic relations that bind the Kingdom to these countries. Discussions focused on ways to enhance joint cooperation and addressed the current challenges facing the region.

Steadfast support for Yemen and Palestine

On regional affairs, the Cabinet reaffirmed the Kingdom's steadfast position on key Arab issues. Regarding Yemen, the Cabinet welcomed the request by the Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council to hold a comprehensive conference in Riyadh for southern factions, a step that reflects the Kingdom's continued commitment to Yemeni unity and its support for dialogue to end the crisis and fulfill the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people in all their diversity.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, the Council emphasized the continuation of the air, sea, and land bridge to provide relief to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. This support is an extension of the Kingdom's long history of championing the Palestinian cause. The Kingdom does not limit itself to political support but translates its positions into tangible humanitarian aid that alleviates the suffering of those affected, affirming that Palestine remains the foremost issue in the hearts and minds of the Saudi leadership and people.

Digital leadership and Vision 2030

Domestically, the Cabinet commended the Kingdom's rapid progress towards digital transformation, praising the launch of the Hexagon data center project in Riyadh. This project is a strategic step within the objectives of Vision 2030, contributing to strengthening national data sovereignty, supporting the digital economy, and attracting global technology investments, thus solidifying the Kingdom's position as a regional and global hub for technology and innovation.

Council Resolutions: Organization of the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science

The Council concluded its session by issuing several resolutions and approvals, most notably the approval of the organizational structure of the National Commission for Education, Culture and Science. This approval is of particular importance given the vital role this commission plays in representing the Kingdom before major international and regional organizations such as UNESCO, ALECSO, and ISESCO. This new structure will enhance the commission's effectiveness in showcasing the Kingdom's cultural and civilizational heritage globally and in developing the education and science sectors in accordance with international standards.

Other key decisions:

  • Approval of a headquarters agreement with the Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education.
  • Signing of Memoranda of Understanding in the agricultural, tourism and environmental fields with the Netherlands, Trinidad and Tobago, China, Kazakhstan, Oman, Zambia and Morocco.
  • Approval of the draft rules and procedures for the National Minerals Program, which supports the mining sector as a third pillar of Saudi industry.
  • Renewal of the National Program for the Development of the Information Technology Sector until 2030 AD.
  • Appointment of new members to the Board of Directors of the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority.
