Eastern Province weather today: Active winds and reduced visibility in Dammam and Khobar
The National Center for Meteorology issued an important weather alert today for the Eastern Province, warning of strong winds that could directly impact daily life and traffic in several major cities and governorates. The alert covers the cities of Dammam and Dhahran, as well as the governorates of Khobar, Jubail, Ras Tanura, Qatif, Abqaiq, Al-Ahsa, and Al-Udayd, where these areas are experiencing unstable weather conditions requiring vigilance.
The center explained in its report that the expected wind speed ranges between 40 and 49 kilometers per hour, a speed sufficient to stir up dust and sand, especially in open areas and on highways connecting the region's governorates. This weather condition has caused a significant decrease in horizontal visibility, dropping to between 3 and 5 kilometers, necessitating caution from drivers and those using highways. The center indicated that this weather condition will continue, God willing, until 6:00 PM today.
Weather conditions in the rest of the Kingdom
In a related context concerning the Kingdom's overall weather conditions, the National Center for Meteorology's report was not limited to the Eastern Province but extended to include comprehensive forecasts for various regions. The forecast for Monday indicates a continued chance of thunderstorms accompanied by active winds in parts of the Al-Baha and Makkah regions. This weather pattern extends to the southern parts of the Madinah highlands, promising rainy conditions that may help moderate temperatures in those areas.
Meanwhile, the northern regions of the Kingdom are experiencing a noticeable drop in temperatures, with cold to very cold weather persisting in parts of Hail, Al-Jawf, and the Northern Borders regions. This temperature decrease extends to the northern parts of the Eastern Province, reflecting a significant climatic diversity across the Kingdom, ranging from dusty conditions in the east to rain in the west and southwest, and very cold weather in the north.
The importance of warnings and their effects
These warnings are of paramount importance given the geographical nature of the Eastern Province, which includes major industrial and residential centers and a vital highway network. Active winds that stir up dust not only affect horizontal visibility but can also have health consequences for those with respiratory conditions and asthma, necessitating the adoption of necessary preventative measures. Furthermore, the continued impact of these active winds on parts of the Tabuk, Madinah, and Makkah regions, and their extension into the eastern parts of the southwestern highlands of the Kingdom, underscores the need to continuously monitor weather forecasts.
In such volatile weather conditions, experts always call for adherence to the instructions of the relevant authorities, avoiding speeding on the roads, and ensuring the safety of vehicles, especially when driving in dusty conditions that may obscure road features and increase the risk of traffic accidents.
