Al-Jubeir in Munich 2026: Saudi-European talks to enhance security

His Excellency Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Member of the Council of Ministers, and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, continued his intensive diplomatic activity in Munich, Germany, on the sidelines of the Saudi delegation's participation in the Munich Security Conference 2026. These efforts reflect the Kingdom's commitment to strengthening its international presence and addressing pressing issues facing the world and the region.

Saudi-British talks to strengthen partnership

At the start of his meetings, Al-Jubeir met with Edward Llewellyn, Director General for Political Affairs at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. The meeting addressed the historical and strategic relations between Riyadh and London and ways to develop them across various political and security fields. The two sides also discussed key issues on the conference agenda and exchanged views on current regional and international crises, emphasizing the importance of joint coordination to confront global security challenges.

Strengthening cooperation with the European Union

In a related development, Al-Jubeir held an important meeting with Ms. Hanna Jalloul-Moro, Vice-Chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs and Head of the Delegation for Relations with the Arabian Peninsula. Discussions focused on mechanisms to enhance existing cooperation between the Kingdom and the European Union, particularly in the areas of security, energy, and climate. The two sides also discussed ways to support stability in the Middle East region and the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in bridging divides and building bridges of understanding between peoples.

Munich Security Conference: A global platform for decision-making

The Munich Security Conference holds exceptional importance as the world's premier platform for discussing international security policies. Each year, the conference brings together hundreds of decision-makers, including heads of state and government, ministers, and representatives of international organizations, to discuss current and future security threats. The Kingdom's participation with a high-level delegation is a testament to its pivotal role as a peacemaker and a trusted partner in maintaining global security and stability, as well as its significant political and economic weight within the G20.

Saudi Arabia's role in international and climate issues

Adel al-Jubeir's participation, in his capacity as Special Envoy for Climate Action, also underscores the Kingdom's commitment to addressing environmental challenges as an integral part of global security. Through its Vision 2030 and its green initiatives, the Kingdom seeks to lead international efforts toward a sustainable future, emphasizing that security, in its comprehensive sense, is not limited to military and political aspects, but extends to energy, climate, and economic security—issues that Saudi diplomacy is keen to raise forcefully in international forums such as the Munich Security Conference.
