Advanced training to improve the efficiency of slaughterhouse and market inspectors in Mecca
Strengthening oversight and consumer protection in the Holy City
In a significant step to enhance food safety standards and protect consumers, the Makkah branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture organized a specialized workshop entitled “Skills for Enforcing Violations in Public Markets and Slaughterhouses.” The workshop aimed to develop the supervisory skills of slaughterhouse and market inspectors, equipping them with the necessary legal and regulatory knowledge to improve field performance and ensure the application of the highest health and safety standards.
Strategic context within the Kingdom's Vision 2030
This initiative is part of the comprehensive national efforts to achieve the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which prioritizes quality of life and public health. The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of food supplies, particularly in the meat and meat products sector. Qualifying and continuously training regulatory personnel represents a direct investment in the health of citizens and residents and strengthens confidence in the government's regulatory system.
Special importance of Mecca
These efforts are doubly important in Mecca, given its religious significance and the millions of pilgrims, Umrah performers, and visitors it receives throughout the year. This massive influx of people places immense pressure on food markets and slaughterhouses, necessitating an effective regulatory system capable of addressing logistical and health challenges. Ensuring the safety of food provided to the pilgrims is not only a national duty but also reflects the Kingdom's civilized image and its commitment to providing the best possible services to visitors of the Two Holy Mosques.
Workshop topics and training details
The workshop was presented by Dr. Mohammed Al-Asiri, Director General of Legal Affairs at the Ministry, who discussed in detail the precise legal procedures related to preparing violation reports. He focused on the correct mechanisms for documenting violations using physical evidence such as photos and recordings, emphasizing the importance of accuracy in monitoring to ensure the rights of all parties, whether consumers or businesses, are protected in accordance with the approved regulations and bylaws. This training aims to empower inspectors to perform their duties with confidence and professionalism, and to standardize field work procedures.
Expected impact and future vision
For his part, Engineer Waleed Al-Daghis, Director General of the Ministry's branch in the Makkah region, explained that this workshop is part of a series of ongoing development programs implemented by the branch to train its supervisory staff. Al-Daghis emphasized that raising the level of compliance with regulations and instructions directly impacts the quality of services provided and contributes to achieving the Ministry's strategic objectives related to public safety and food security. He also stressed the importance of continuing these programs to keep pace with developments and continuously improve performance, thus ensuring a safe and healthy consumer environment in the region.
