Al-Alimi calls for seizing the opportunities presented by the transformations to restore the Yemeni state

Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen, stressed the need to deal seriously and responsibly with the current political and field changes, calling on all national forces to “seize the current transformations” as an irreplaceable historical opportunity to restore state institutions and end the coup, in order to ensure security and stability for the Yemeni people who have suffered for many years from the ravages of conflict.
The importance of timing and regional shifts
Al-Alimi's statements come at a time of intense diplomatic activity in the region and concerted international and regional efforts to advance the peace process in Yemen. The term "transformations" in this context refers to a number of geopolitical shifts, including recent regional rapprochements, increasing international pressure to end the war, and the unification of ranks within the legitimate government. Observers believe that this moment requires exceptional cooperation from all Yemeni factions operating under the umbrella of legitimacy to translate these opportunities into tangible gains on the ground, whether through peaceful negotiations or by strengthening the military and political position of the internationally recognized government.
Presidential Leadership Council and Unifying the Home Front
Since its formation in April 2022, the Presidential Leadership Council has undertaken the primary task of unifying the anti-Houthi military, security, and political entities. Al-Alimi's call is an extension of this vision, as the Council believes that restoring the state can only be achieved through a cohesive and strong internal front. The Yemeni leadership faces numerous challenges, including managing the deteriorating economy and improving services in the liberated governorates, while simultaneously waging the political and military campaign against the Houthi group. This makes leveraging any international support or regional shift crucial for the state's survival.
The human and economic dimensions of state restoration
The importance of restoring the Yemeni state extends beyond the political sphere to include rescuing the catastrophic humanitarian situation, which the United Nations has described as the worst in the world. The absence of central state institutions and the control exerted by militias have led to the collapse of the national currency, the cessation of salary payments, and the deterioration of the health and education sectors. Therefore, Al-Alimi's call for decisive action stems from a profound understanding that delaying a resolution to the conflict—whether through peace or war—means further suffering for millions of Yemenis who lack even the most basic necessities for a dignified life.
International support and the future of Yemen
This call coincides with the continued support provided by the Saudi-led coalition to support the legitimate government in Yemen, and by the international community. Al-Alimi consistently emphasizes that partnership with the Arab world and the international community is a fundamental pillar in the project to restore the state, stressing that Yemen will only be an active part of its Arab environment, and rejecting any foreign projects that threaten the country's identity and the security of international navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
