Weather warnings: Moderate rain and strong winds expected in the Al-Baha region
Urgent warnings from the National Center for Meteorology regarding the weather in the Al-Baha region
The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an important and urgent alert warning of significant weather fluctuations and moderate to heavy rainfall in the Al-Baha region. This warning comes as part of ongoing weather monitoring, as the rain is expected to be accompanied by strong winds leading to near-zero horizontal visibility, in addition to the possibility of flash floods in valleys and ravines, hail, and strong thunderstorms.
Governorates and regions covered by the warning
The meteorological report indicated that this rainy weather system will primarily affect the city of Al-Baha, in addition to several neighboring governorates, namely: Al-Qura, Al-Mandaq, Baljurashi, Bani Hassan, and Al-Aqiq, and their surrounding areas. The center stated that this unstable weather system will continue, God willing, until 8:00 PM this evening.
In a related context, the weather alerts also included expectations of light rain accompanied by active winds and a decrease in horizontal visibility, with the possibility of thunderstorms in the governorates of the Tihama sector of the Al-Baha region, which include: Al-Makhwah, Qalwah, Al-Hajrah, and Ghamid Al-Zanad, and the parts adjacent to them. This weather condition will also continue until 8 pm.
The geographical and climatic importance of the Al-Baha region
The Al-Baha region, situated in the Sarawat Mountains of southwestern Saudi Arabia, is a prominent area characterized by its mountainous terrain and its temperate climate, with mild summers and cold winters. Historically, Al-Baha has been known for its abundant seasonal rainfall, which has contributed to the formation of its renowned agricultural terraces and dense forests, such as the Raghadan Forest. This rainfall plays a vital role in replenishing groundwater reserves and filling dams, positively impacting the local agricultural sector, which is famous for its production of pomegranates, grapes, and almonds, as well as some of the finest natural honey.
Weather conditions and safety guidelines
Locally, the National Center for Meteorology's warnings receive close attention from relevant authorities, most notably the General Directorate of Civil Defense, which consistently urges citizens and residents to exercise caution in such weather conditions. The standard guidelines include staying away from valleys and flood channels, avoiding crossing them during rainfall, and exercising extreme caution while driving on mountain roads and slopes due to reduced visibility and the potential for landslides caused by waterlogged ground.
The role of the National Center for Meteorology in protecting lives and property
This alert is part of the National Center for Meteorology's ongoing efforts to provide the most accurate weather information and early warnings. The center utilizes the latest global technologies, including weather radars and satellites, to monitor cloud movement and wind speed. This advanced system contributes to achieving the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 by raising the quality of life, protecting lives and public and private property, and mitigating potential natural hazards, thus enhancing the preparedness of all sectors to respond effectively to emergencies.
