The historical and religious significance of Al-Khaif Mosque
is Al-Khaif Mosque one of the most important and largest mosques in the Holy Sites, holding a significant religious and historical place in the hearts of Muslims. Historically, it is known as the "Mosque of the Prophets," as the Prophet's biography and reliable historical accounts indicate that dozens of prophets prayed at this location, most notably our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during his Farewell Pilgrimage. The mosque's importance is particularly pronounced on the Day of Tarwiyah and the days of Tashreeq, when hundreds of thousands of pilgrims flock to it to perform prayers and attend religious lessons and sermons.
Local and international impact of serving the pilgrims
Regionally and internationally, the significant attention given to developing Al-Khaif Mosque reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to providing the highest quality services to millions of Muslims from around the world. These efforts demonstrate the Kingdom's exceptional ability to manage massive crowds and provide a safe and spiritually enriching environment, directly aligning with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to enhance the religious experience and facilitate the hosting of pilgrims. Domestically, these projects contribute to creating a comprehensive system involving various government sectors to ensure the success of the Hajj season.
Huge capacity and unprecedented facilities
In terms of the scale of the achievement, Al-Khaif Mosque is the largest in Mina, with a building area of approximately 23,500 square meters. The prayer area, furnished with the finest quality carpets, exceeds 27,000 square meters. As part of the operational preparations, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance completed the installation of over 1,700 restrooms (1,440 for men and 300 for women). To ensure a comfortable environment, 410 modern cooling units connected to smart control systems were installed, enhancing cooling efficiency within the mosque and its courtyards.
Development projects for the comfort of pilgrims
Over the past seven years, the mosque has undergone a series of development projects, most notably the project to improve and cool the mosque's surroundings. This involved installing 57 air fans equipped with misting and fogging systems to reduce heat stress. Regarding the provision of water to pilgrims, 54 high-efficiency water coolers were installed, each with a production capacity of 500 liters per hour, bringing the total capacity to provide chilled water to more than 81,000 pilgrims per hour.
Technology, awareness, and crowd management
The Ministry did not overlook the technological aspect; it provided mobile phone charging points, and the mosque was equipped with 79 digital screens displaying guidance messages in several languages. For security and organization, more than 50 advanced surveillance cameras were installed, and the mosque was equipped with 9 main entrances and 6 emergency exits to ensure smooth flow of pilgrims. More than 500 employees, technicians, and workers serve the mosque around the clock, under the supervision and on-site monitoring of His Excellency the Minister of Islamic Affairs to ensure the best possible services are provided to the pilgrims.
