Al-Khanbashi warns against incitement: Hadramawt is big enough for everyone and rejects violence

Dr. Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi, the former Yemeni Deputy Prime Minister, emphasized the importance of preserving the social fabric of Hadramawt Governorate, warning against the dangers of being drawn into calls for incitement that could destabilize the region. These remarks came in an exclusive interview with the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, where Al-Khanbashi stressed that Hadramawt, with its rich history and strategic importance, must remain a model of peaceful coexistence and acceptance of others.
Al-Khanbashi pointed out that the current phase Yemen is going through in general, and the southern and eastern governorates in particular, requires a high degree of wisdom and national responsibility. He explained that the slogan "Hadramawt is for everyone" is not just a passing phrase, but a political and social principle that must be firmly established on the ground by rejecting policies of exclusion and marginalization, and ensuring the participation of all Hadrami groups in shaping the future of their governorate, far removed from narrow, peripheral conflicts.
The strategic importance of Hadhramaut and the impact of its stability
Al-Khanbashi's statements are particularly significant given the weight Hadramawt Governorate carries in the Yemeni equation. It is the largest governorate in the republic in terms of area, possesses strategic reserves of oil and mineral wealth, and boasts a vital geographical location and a long coastline. Hadramawt has long been a linchpin in the Yemeni political landscape, with local and international observers viewing it as a cornerstone for any economic and security stability in the country.
Historically, Hadramawt has been known as a bastion of moderation and centrism, avoiding direct involvement in the violent armed conflicts that have plagued other regions. Hence, Al-Khanbashi's warnings caution against attempts to drag the province into violence or chaos through inflammatory rhetoric that serves only agendas detrimental to the interests of the Hadrami citizen, who yearns for security, development, and services.
Calls for unity and rejection of division
Amid the current political tensions, analysts believe that Al-Khanbashi's call represents the voice of reason that the people of Hadramawt need today. The political and tribal diversity in the governorate should be a source of strength and enrichment, not division and conflict. Emphasizing that the governorate is inclusive of all necessitates opening channels of dialogue between various parties—political groups, tribal factions, and civil society organizations—to reach a shared vision that guarantees the rights of all and protects national achievements.
In conclusion, Al-Khanbashi's message serves as a reminder that stability in Hadramawt is not only a local interest, but also a regional and international one, given Yemen's sensitive location and the impact of any instability on regional security and international navigation. Therefore, maintaining calm in Hadramawt and preserving its internal unity is a paramount priority requiring the concerted efforts of all sincere parties.
