Al-Zindani praises the efforts of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen

The Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Shaya Mohsen Al-Zindani, praised the pivotal role and great efforts made by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, stressing that these efforts represent a fundamental pillar in supporting the legitimate Yemeni government and alleviating the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people in light of the exceptional circumstances the country is going through.

Al-Zindani emphasized that the projects and initiatives led by the program are not limited to urgent relief efforts, but extend to sustainable development projects that directly address the needs of Yemeni citizens in various liberated governorates. This praise comes within the context of the Yemeni government's appreciation for the continued fraternal support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which reflects the depth of the historical relations and shared destiny between the two brotherly countries.

The context of Saudi support: From relief to sustainable development

The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen was established as a strategic initiative aimed at shifting relief efforts in Yemen from emergency humanitarian aid to development and reconstruction. Since its inception, the program has implemented hundreds of vital projects across seven key sectors: health, education, energy, transportation, water, agriculture and fisheries, and capacity building for government institutions.

This support comes at a time when Yemen is suffering from a severe deterioration in infrastructure due to years of ongoing conflict. The program has contributed to the rehabilitation of hospitals and health centers, the equipping of schools and universities, in addition to the project to rehabilitate Aden International Airport, which is a vital artery for Yemenis, and projects to pave the main roads that connect the governorates.

Economic importance and regional impact

The Saudi program's importance extends beyond the service sector; its impact is significant on the economic front. The Saudi oil derivatives grant provided through the program has contributed to the operation of power plants in the liberated governorates, leading to relative stability in energy supplies, easing the burden on the state budget, and supporting the stability of the local currency and the Yemeni economy in general.

At the regional and international levels, the program’s efforts are seen as a pioneering model of development work during conflicts, as it contributes to enhancing security and stability in the region by providing job opportunities for Yemeni youth and combating unemployment, thus reducing the chances of joining extremist groups and helping to create the right ground for a comprehensive peace process in the future.

In conclusion, the continued Saudi support through this program represents a clear message of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting Yemen, both its land and its people, not only to overcome the current crisis, but also to build a promising and stable future for future generations.
