Mecca: Four residents arrested on charges of providing fake Hajj services

Intensive security efforts to protect pilgrims

As part of ongoing security efforts to protect pilgrims and ensure the safety and security of the Hajj season, Saudi Arabian security authorities announced a new blow to fraud networks. Security patrols in the holy city of Mecca arrested four residents of Indian and Bangladeshi nationalities for their involvement in financial fraud and scams. These individuals promoted fake and misleading Hajj services through various social media platforms.

Details of the arrest and legal procedures

The search and seizure operation resulted in the discovery of forged Hajj cards in the possession of the accused, along with documents and tools used in forgery and fraud. The individuals were immediately arrested and all necessary legal procedures were initiated against them, pending their referral to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and the application of the maximum penalties stipulated by the regulations in force in the Kingdom.

Historical context and the “No Hajj without a permit” campaign

This incident comes within a long history of Saudi Arabia's firm stance against anyone attempting to exploit religious rituals for illicit gain. Every year, as the Hajj season approaches, the Saudi Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with Public Security, launches intensive awareness and field campaigns under the slogan "No Hajj Without a Permit." These campaigns aim to completely eradicate the phenomenon of fraudulent Hajj campaigns that were prevalent in the past, which exploited Muslims' emotions and desire to perform the pilgrimage to ensnare them in a web of fraud and financial deception.

Importance and impact: locally, regionally, and internationally

These proactive security efforts are of paramount importance and have a multifaceted impact. Locally, they contribute to crowd management and prevent the chaotic overcrowding that can result from the influx of unregistered pilgrims, thus ensuring the safety of registered pilgrims and facilitating the movement of pilgrims within the holy sites. Regionally and internationally, the firm stance taken against these gangs reinforces the confidence of Islamic countries and the international community in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ability and competence to manage the world's largest annual human gathering with the highest standards of security and safety, and protects foreign nationals from falling victim to transnational organized crime networks that promote these misleading advertisements.

Official warnings and reporting methods

In this regard, Saudi Public Security reiterated its warnings and calls to all citizens and residents to fully comply with Hajj regulations and instructions, and to avoid being misled by unreliable advertisements claiming to offer Hajj permits or services at attractive prices outside the official framework of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and its approved platforms. Public Security urged everyone to immediately report any violators or promoters of fraudulent campaigns by calling 911 in the Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern Province regions, or 999 in the rest of the Kingdom, emphasizing that public awareness is the first line of defense.
