A fraudster who issued forged Hajj permits was arrested in Mecca
As part of the ongoing efforts by Saudi authorities to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims to the Holy Mosque in Mecca, Makkah police announced the arrest of a citizen for his involvement in organized fraud. His crime consisted of issuing and distributing forged entry permits to the holy city during the Hajj season, exploiting the desire of many to perform the pilgrimage.
Background of the organizational procedures for the Hajj season
This incident comes amidst Saudi Arabia's tightening of its Hajj regulations, primarily aimed at managing the millions of pilgrims and ensuring their safety. Authorities require all those wishing to perform Hajj, whether from within the Kingdom or abroad, to obtain an official Hajj permit through approved channels such as the Nusuk platform. The Ministry of Interior's annual "No Hajj Without a Permit" campaign is a key component of this system, aiming to raise awareness of the penalties for violating regulations and to prevent overcrowding and unauthorized sleeping in the holy sites, which could endanger the lives of pilgrims.
The importance of permits and their impact on the safety of pilgrims
The permit system is not merely an administrative procedure; it is the cornerstone of the Hajj management plan. It enables relevant authorities to know the precise number of pilgrims, allocate them to camps and transportation, and efficiently provide them with the necessary health and logistical services. It also helps prevent the entry of undocumented pilgrims who could overburden infrastructure and services, negatively impacting the experience of registered pilgrims. Forgery, such as that perpetrated by the defendant, undermines these efforts, jeopardizes everyone's safety, financially exploits victims, and leaves them vulnerable to legal repercussions and deportation.
Details of legal procedures and repercussions
According to the official statement, the accused was apprehended and all necessary legal procedures were taken against him, in preparation for referring him to the Public Prosecution to complete the investigations and file the required charges. This step underscores the state's firm stance in dealing with anyone who attempts to exploit religious rites for illicit gain. Penalties for violating Hajj regulations include imprisonment, hefty fines, and deportation from the Kingdom for residents, along with a lengthy ban on re-entry.
In this regard, Public Security reiterated its call to all citizens and residents to fully comply with Hajj regulations and instructions, and to immediately report any offices or individuals promoting fraudulent Hajj campaigns or selling forged permits. These violations can be reported by calling 911 in the Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern Province regions, or 999 in the rest of the Kingdom.
