A violation was recorded for grazing camels in the Imam Abdulaziz Royal Reserve

The Saudi Arabian Special Forces for Environmental Security announced the arrest of a citizen for violating environmental regulations by grazing ten camels in prohibited areas within the boundaries of the Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve. Legal procedures were applied to the violator, underscoring the authorities' commitment to enforcing environmental laws and protecting natural resources.

The forces clarified that the penalty for grazing camels in prohibited areas is 500 Saudi Riyals per camel, meaning the total fine in this case reaches 5,000 Riyals. This measure comes as part of a series of ongoing efforts by the Special Forces for Environmental Security to monitor compliance with environmental regulations in various regions of the Kingdom, including the Royal Reserves, which are of great strategic importance.

General context: Royal reserves and Vision 2030

This incident falls within the context of the comprehensive national transformation underway in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, guided by Vision 2030. The Vision has placed significant emphasis on environmental protection and sustainability as a cornerstone for improving quality of life and achieving sustainable development. In this context, a royal decree was issued in 2018 establishing the Royal Reserves Council and designating several nature reserves, including the Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve, with the aim of preserving biodiversity, reintroducing endangered species, developing vegetation cover, and combating desertification.

The importance of the event and its expected impact

The importance of addressing such violations lies in several dimensions. Locally, these measures send a strong deterrent message to anyone contemplating environmental degradation and raise public awareness of the need to preserve natural resources. Overgrazing is one of the most significant threats to vegetation cover, leading to soil degradation and increased desertification rates, which is precisely what protected areas aim to reverse. Nationally, strict enforcement of the law reflects the Kingdom's serious commitment to achieving the objectives of the "Saudi Green Initiative" and the "Green Middle East Initiative," and reinforces its position as a leading country in environmental action at the regional level. Internationally, these efforts contribute to enhancing the Kingdom's image as an active partner in global efforts to combat climate change and preserve biodiversity, and confirm that it translates its international commitments into concrete actions on the ground.

The Special Forces for Environmental Security urged all citizens and residents to report any cases of aggression against the environment or wildlife by calling (911) in the Makkah, Riyadh and Eastern regions, and (999) and (996) in the rest of the Kingdom’s regions, stressing that all reports will be treated with complete confidentiality and without any legal responsibility on the reporter.
