Five people arrested for hunting without a permit in Al-Qunfudhah – Details

The coastal patrols of the Border Guard in Al-Qunfudhah Governorate in the Makkah Region announced their success in apprehending five violators of the Border Security System and the Safety and Security Regulations for those practicing maritime activities, as part of the ongoing efforts made by the security and regulatory authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to protect marine resources and ensure compliance with regulations and laws.

In detail, field teams apprehended four Egyptian residents and one Indian resident after observing them fishing without the necessary permits. Quantities of illegally caught fish were found in their possession, prompting immediate legal action and their referral to the relevant authorities for further investigation and the application of prescribed penalties.

The importance of regulating fishing and protecting the marine environment

This process comes as part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to regulating the marine fishing sector, a vital economic and food resource. The relevant authorities, represented by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in cooperation with the Border Guard, impose strict requirements for obtaining fishing licenses. These licenses aim to control catch quantities, define permitted fishing seasons, and prevent the use of unsustainable fishing gear that could harm coral reefs or deplete fish stocks in the Red Sea.

Adherence to official permits is an integral part of the strategy to maintain ecological balance, as indiscriminate and unlicensed fishing threatens the sustainability of marine wildlife and negatively affects legitimate fishermen who comply with environmental and security standards.

Corporate social responsibility and reporting figures

The General Directorate of Border Guards stressed the importance of all beachgoers, fishermen, and marine enthusiasts adhering to the announced regulations and instructions, emphasizing that protecting the marine environment is a shared responsibility between official authorities and members of the community. It urged everyone to report any violations related to overfishing, encroachment on protected areas, or any practices that harm the environment or maritime safety without hesitation.

The security authorities called on citizens and residents to immediately report emergencies or violations via the designated numbers, where the number (911) in the regions of Makkah, Riyadh and the Eastern Province, or via the numbers (994) , (999) and (996) in the rest of the regions of the Kingdom, stressing that all reports are dealt with in complete confidentiality and without the slightest responsibility on the informant.
