A resident was arrested in Mecca for providing fake Hajj services

The promoter of fake Hajj campaigns was arrested

As part of ongoing security efforts to protect pilgrims and ensure the safety and security of the Hajj season, Makkah Police announced the arrest of an Egyptian resident. The arrest stemmed from the suspect's involvement in online fraud, specifically the posting of advertisements promoting the issuance of entry permits to the holy sites and offering fictitious and misleading Hajj services across various social media platforms. The suspect was immediately detained, and all necessary legal procedures were initiated against him, pending his referral to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and the application of appropriate penalties.

General context and the Kingdom's efforts in organizing the Hajj

This incident comes amidst the intensive security and awareness campaigns launched annually by the Saudi Ministry of Interior as the Hajj season approaches. Historically, Hajj seasons have suffered from attempts by unscrupulous individuals to exploit Muslims' desire to perform the pilgrimage by promoting unlicensed Hajj campaigns. To counter this, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has developed a comprehensive technological and security system, including the launch of official platforms such as the Nusuk platform and the Tawakkalna application, to ensure that all procedures and permits are documented and issued by the competent authorities. Saudi authorities consistently emphasize that there is no Hajj without a permit, and that any advertisement outside of official channels is a clear violation of regulations and warrants legal accountability.

The importance of combating fraud and its international impact

This security achievement is of paramount importance on several levels. Locally, it reflects the vigilance of Saudi security agencies and their ability to detect and track cybercrimes, thus strengthening the rule of law and protecting pilgrims from fraud and financial scams. Regionally and internationally, the announcement of such arrests sends a clear and strong warning to all Muslims worldwide about the need to be wary of falling victim to online fraud gangs that operate during Hajj and Umrah seasons. It also contributes to raising awareness among those wishing to perform the pilgrimage about the importance of relying exclusively on accredited agencies and official channels provided by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, ensuring they can perform their rituals in a safe and organized environment.

Methods for reporting violations of Hajj regulations

In this regard, Saudi Public Security reiterated its warnings and calls to all citizens and residents to fully comply with Hajj regulations and instructions. Public Security urged everyone to take the initiative and cooperate with the relevant authorities by immediately reporting any fraudulent Hajj campaigns or services, or any individuals violating the regulations. Reports can be submitted confidentially and easily by calling the unified number 911 in the Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern Province regions. In the rest of the Kingdom, those reporting can call 999. The combined efforts of the community and security agencies are the cornerstone of a successful Hajj season and will thwart fraudsters.
