Asir: A citizen was arrested for transporting 12 violators of the border security system
The General Directorate of Mujahideen in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced a new security achievement in the Asir region, where its patrols apprehended a Saudi citizen involved in transporting 12 Ethiopian nationals who were in violation of border security regulations. This operation comes as part of the ongoing efforts of Saudi security forces to enforce the rule of law and protect the Kingdom's borders from infiltration and smuggling attempts.
Background and context of security campaigns
This incident comes within the broader context of the intensive security campaigns launched by the Kingdom in recent years, most notably the “A Nation Without Violators” campaign, which aims to track down and apprehend violators of residency, labor, and border security regulations. The Kingdom’s southern border, specifically with Yemen, is a major crossing point for infiltrators from the Horn of Africa seeking to enter the country illegally in search of employment. Saudi authorities face significant security, economic, and social challenges as a result of this phenomenon, necessitating constant vigilance and the firm enforcement of regulations.
The importance of the process and its impact
Domestically, such operations bolster citizens' confidence in the security forces' ability to protect the nation's security. They also serve as a strong deterrent to anyone tempted to become involved in human trafficking networks, whose dangers extend beyond security concerns to include the exploitation of these migrants in illicit activities. Regionally, these efforts send a clear message that the Kingdom will not tolerate any breaches of its borders, thus putting pressure on organized smuggling networks operating in the region and exploiting the dire humanitarian conditions in some neighboring countries.
Strict penalties for those involved
The official spokesperson for the General Directorate of Mujahideen reiterated that the Kingdom's regulations impose strict penalties on anyone who facilitates the entry of border security violators or provides them with transportation, shelter, or any other form of assistance. These penalties include imprisonment for up to 15 years and a fine of up to one million Saudi riyals. Furthermore, the vehicle and accommodation used in the crime are confiscated, and the perpetrator is publicly shamed. The spokesperson emphasized that this crime is considered a major offense warranting arrest and is a breach of honor and integrity.
A call for community cooperation
At the end of the statement, the General Directorate of Mujahideen urged all citizens and residents to report any violations of residency, labor and border security regulations by calling the designated numbers (911) in the regions of Makkah, Riyadh and the Eastern Province, and (999) and (996) in the rest of the regions of the Kingdom, stressing that all reports will be treated with complete confidentiality and without any legal responsibility on the person reporting.
