Aziz Autism Association launched in Riyadh under the supervision of the Ministry of Health

The National Center for the Development of the Non-Profit Sector announced the issuance of an official license for the Aziz Autism Association in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. This pioneering step comes under the direct supervision of the Saudi Ministry of Health, with the aim of strengthening community efforts and empowering individuals with developmental disorders, particularly autism spectrum disorder, according to the highest specialized medical and social standards.

General context and celebration of World Autism Awareness Day

The official launch of the Aziz Autism Association coincided with World Autism Awareness Day, which was designated by the United Nations General Assembly to be observed annually on April 2nd since 2007. This day aims globally to highlight the urgent need to improve the quality of life for people with autism. Locally, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has witnessed a significant transformation in the level of healthcare and social services provided to people with disabilities in recent years. The wise leadership places great importance on developing the third (non-profit) sector to be a key partner to the government sector in providing health and rehabilitation services and facilitating access to them for beneficiaries.

The impact of the event and its alignment with the Kingdom's Vision 2030

The launch of the Aziz Autism Association is of great importance both locally and regionally, representing a significant addition to the healthcare and social services system in the Kingdom. The association's chairperson, Mashael Al-Dubaie, explained that the association has established its headquarters in Riyadh, driven by a deeply rooted humanitarian mission that believes in the right of beneficiaries to have equal opportunities for a dignified and independent life.

The association's operational plans aim to bridge the current gap in rehabilitation services through advanced programs that increase rates of social inclusion. This approach aligns closely with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Program, which seeks to provide an inclusive environment that integrates all segments of society and provides them with sustainable developmental support, positively impacting the economy and society as a whole.

Accurate statistics and challenges that require early intervention

In highlighting the critical need for the association's services, the chairperson revealed specialized medical statistics confirming that approximately 1% of children are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. A key scientific fact in this field is that the rate of autism in males is four times higher than in females.

Furthermore, approximately 40% of individuals with autism experience significant impairments in speech and communication skills, necessitating early intervention and ongoing care through specialized and qualified centers. She emphasized that despite considerable efforts, there remains a growing need for a comprehensive and sustainable care system that meets the aspirations of this important group and their families in the Kingdom.

National competencies to build an inclusive community environment

The board of directors of the Aziz Autism Association comprises a select group of specialized national experts who strive to establish an institutional entity capable of creating a sustainable developmental impact. The association seeks to contribute to building a more inclusive environment by adopting innovative work models that combine specialized rehabilitation with family support to serve the community.

The association concludes its strategic objectives with a strong emphasis on knowledge investment, designing evidence-based programs, developing the capabilities of its human resources, and building effective partnerships with educational and health institutions to ensure the delivery of best global practices.
