Bahrain appreciates the role of Saudi Arabia and the UAE in supporting the stability of Yemen
The Kingdom of Bahrain, which holds the current presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), expressed its deep appreciation for the pivotal and strategic role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in supporting the security and stability of the Republic of Yemen. This stance stems from the fraternal and historical responsibilities incumbent upon both countries and their unwavering commitment to safeguarding Arab and Gulf national security within the framework of the GCC.
Gulf unity and wise leadership
In a statement issued by the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Manama affirmed its absolute confidence in the wisdom of the leaderships of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and their remarkable ability to manage complex regional issues and contain any differences of opinion that may arise, within the framework of the "unified Gulf home." The statement emphasized that relations among the GCC states are based on solid principles of solidarity, understanding, and shared destiny, serving the common aspirations of the region's peoples to consolidate security, stability, and peace, and achieve sustainable prosperity.
The importance of the Saudi and Emirati role in Yemen
The role played by Riyadh and Abu Dhabi is of paramount importance not only in Yemen, but also regionally and internationally. Since the launch of the Arab Coalition's operations to support legitimacy, the two countries have worked side-by-side to confront the security challenges that threatened the Yemeni state, in addition to their significant efforts in combating terrorist organizations and securing international shipping lanes in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which is a cornerstone of global economic stability.
The three references and the political solution
In a related context, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the Kingdom's firm and unwavering support for all regional and international initiatives and efforts aimed at ending the Yemeni crisis through a comprehensive and lasting political solution. The Ministry clarified that any solution must be based on the three internationally agreed-upon frameworks:
- The Gulf Initiative and its implementation mechanism laid out a roadmap for the transfer of power.
- The outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, which were agreed upon by the various Yemeni factions.
- The relevant UN Security Council resolutions, most notably Resolution 2216.
Bahrain concluded its statement by stressing the need to preserve Yemen’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and to work towards achieving the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people for security, stability and reconstruction so that Yemen can return as an active member in its Arab and Gulf environment.
