Bin Habrish: Hadhramaut is entering a new era and we will not allow the return of terrorism

Sheikh Amr bin Habrish, First Deputy Governor of Hadhramaut and Head of the Hadhramaut Tribes Alliance, affirmed that the governorate stands today on the threshold of a pivotal stage and a new era that requires everyone to join forces. In statements to the newspaper “Al-Sharq Al-Awsat”, he stressed that the people of the governorate will never allow the return of terrorism or the threat to the social peace that was achieved with great sacrifices.
Security is a red line: there is no going back
Bin Habrish's statements come at a sensitive time for Yemen in general and the liberated governorates in particular, as he indicated that security is the top priority for local authorities and tribal leaders. In his remarks, Bin Habrish recalled the recent history of the governorate, emphasizing that the bitter experience Hadramawt endured when al-Qaeda controlled Mukalla and the Hadramawt coast in 2015 will not be repeated. He explained that the military and security forces, supported by popular and tribal backing, are vigilant against any attempts to destabilize the region, praising the pivotal role played by the Hadrami Elite Forces, with the support of the Arab Coalition, in defeating terrorist organizations and establishing security since 2016.
Historical context and tribal role
To understand the depth of these statements, one must consider the historical and political background of Hadramawt, the largest governorate in Yemen by area and the richest in natural and oil resources. The Hadramawt Tribal Alliance, led by Bin Habrish, has long been a key player in the political and security landscape. The alliance was founded as a unifying body to advocate for the rights of the governorate's inhabitants and empower them to manage their own affairs and resources. The current emphasis on a "new era" suggests a genuine desire to strengthen local governance and spare the governorate the peripheral conflicts plaguing other parts of Yemen.
Strategic and economic importance
The importance of stability in Hadramawt extends beyond local affairs to encompass regional and international dimensions. The governorate boasts a long coastline on the Arabian Sea and is home to some of Yemen's most important oil fields, including Al-Masila, making its stability a cornerstone of the struggling Yemeni economy. Observers believe that Bin Habrish's talk of a new era signifies a commitment to improving basic services, attracting investment, and leveraging the relative stability to present Hadramawt as a successful model for liberated areas, free from the chaos of militias and extremist groups.
A vision for the future
Bin Habrish concluded his vision by emphasizing that the next phase requires a genuine partnership among all Hadrami factions, working under the umbrella of legitimacy to guarantee the province's rights. The insistence on preventing the return of terrorism is not merely a security slogan, but a fundamental prerequisite for any economic development or political stability the province seeks amidst the rapidly changing landscape of Yemen.
