Border Guards arrest 3 violators of maritime activities in Medina

Seizing violations of maritime activities in Yanbu

As part of ongoing efforts to protect the marine environment and ensure compliance with regulations, coastal patrols of the Border Guard sector in Yanbu Governorate, Madinah Region, apprehended three citizens for violating the safety and security regulations for those engaged in maritime activities within the territorial waters of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This operation followed the violators' practice of fishing without the necessary official permits, in addition to their use of fishing gear prohibited both environmentally and by law. All necessary legal and regulatory measures have been taken against them in coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure the application of deterrent penalties.

Environmental context and Saudi Vision 2030

These security and monitoring efforts come within the framework of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s firm commitment to protecting the environment and wildlife, which aligns closely with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative. The wise leadership places great importance on preserving natural resources, with the Red Sea being one of the most important marine destinations, distinguished by its unique biodiversity and rare coral reefs. Historically, the Saudi Border Guard has played a pivotal role not only in protecting border security but also in safeguarding the Kingdom’s economic and environmental resources from any tampering or illegal exploitation.

The importance of adhering to fishing and safety regulations

Enforcing safety regulations for those engaged in maritime activities is not merely a routine procedure, but an absolute necessity to ensure the sustainability of marine resources. The use of prohibited fishing gear destroys the natural habitats of fish and other marine life, disrupting the delicate ecological balance of the region. Locally, implementing these regulations helps protect the livelihoods of legitimate fishermen who depend on the sea as their primary source of income, and it also enhances Yanbu's appeal as a leading ecotourism destination.

Regional and international impact of Red Sea protection

At the regional and international levels, protecting the marine environment in the Red Sea reflects the Kingdom's commitment to international agreements concerning the preservation of biodiversity and combating overfishing. The sustainability of these resources is a global responsibility, and the decisive steps taken by the Saudi authorities provide a model to be emulated in managing and protecting aquatic resources from the environmental degradation affecting many bodies of water around the world.

A call for cooperation and reporting of environmental violations

In this context, the General Directorate of Border Guards urged all citizens, residents, and visitors to coastal areas to fully comply with regulations and instructions related to the protection of living aquatic resources. It emphasized the importance of community involvement in reporting any incidents of environmental or wildlife violations. Reports can be submitted easily and confidentially by calling the unified emergency number (911) in the Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions. In the rest of the Kingdom, the numbers (994), (999), and (996) can be used. The relevant authorities affirmed that all reports are handled with complete confidentiality and high professionalism, without any liability on the part of the reporter, thus reinforcing the principle of community partnership in protecting the nation's resources.
