Border guards arrest 6 violators of the fishing regulations in Al-Qunfudhah
As part of the ongoing security and monitoring efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to protect its maritime borders and preserve its marine resources, the coastal patrols of the Border Guard in Al-Qunfudhah Governorate in the Makkah Region were able to apprehend a number of violators of maritime regulations, as part of their intensive field campaigns to monitor the coasts.
Details of the arrest of violators in Al-Qunfudhah
Authorities announced that coastal patrols apprehended six Egyptian residents for blatantly violating maritime safety regulations. The violators were found to be fishing in the Kingdom's territorial waters without the required permits, and quantities of illegally caught fish were seized from their possession.
Procedures and the importance of permits
Immediately after the seizure, the relevant authorities initiated all necessary regulatory and legal procedures against the violators, in direct coordination with the competent bodies to ensure the application of deterrent penalties. This step underscores the necessity for all those engaged in maritime activities, whether amateur or professional, to obtain the required permits from the relevant authorities. These permits aim to regulate fishing operations, ensure the safety of marine users, and prevent practices that may harm the marine environment or threaten security and safety.
Protecting fish stocks and the marine environment
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia places great importance on protecting its marine environment and fisheries, particularly in the Red Sea region, which boasts unique biodiversity. Illegal and unlicensed fishing practices threaten the sustainability of these resources. Therefore, the Border Guard, in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, works to enforce strict controls that prevent the depletion of natural resources and ensure the marine environment remains free from violations that could disrupt the ecological balance.
Call for reporting and communication
In closing, the General Directorate of Border Guards urged all citizens and residents to fully comply with the regulations and instructions pertaining to fishing and marine recreation. It also called upon everyone to demonstrate their national and social responsibility by immediately reporting any suspected violations or offenses that constitute an attack on the environment or wildlife.
Violations can be reported through official emergency channels by calling 911 in the Makkah, Riyadh, Eastern Province, and Madinah regions. Residents of the rest of the Kingdom can contact 994 , 999 , and 996. Security authorities have confirmed that all reports are treated with complete confidentiality, and the reporter will not face any legal repercussions, in order to encourage cooperation in protecting the nation's resources.
