Jeddah border guards arrest a person for fishing with prohibited equipment
The Coast Guard patrols in Jeddah, Makkah Province, announced the arrest of a citizen who violated the regulations and laws governing the maritime areas of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by security and regulatory authorities to protect marine resources and ensure compliance with safety and security standards.
Details of the seizure of a fishing violation in Jeddah
The Border Guard explained that the violation consisted of the citizen fishing without the necessary permit and using illegal fishing gear, a clear violation of the regulations governing maritime safety and security. The relevant authorities have initiated all necessary legal procedures against the violator, and he has been referred to the appropriate authorities to complete the prescribed penalties according to the law.
The importance of adhering to fishing permits and maritime regulations
Saudi Arabia enforces strict regulations regarding maritime activities. Obtaining a fishing permit is a prerequisite to ensure organized fishing operations and to verify the identity of those at sea, thus facilitating search and rescue operations in emergencies. Furthermore, the ban on certain fishing gear is intended to protect the marine environment from destruction. Prohibited gear (such as overfishing nets or chemicals) causes significant damage to coral reefs and depletes fish stocks, threatening the ecological balance of the Red Sea.
Protecting the marine environment is a national responsibility
The Kingdom places great importance on protecting wildlife and the marine environment, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which focuses on environmental sustainability and the preservation of natural resources. The Border Guard Forces work alongside the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture to deter any practices that could harm fish stocks or constitute an attack on wildlife. Overfishing and the use of illegal methods are among the most prominent challenges facing the sustainability of marine resources, necessitating concerted official and community efforts to address them.
Methods for reporting environmental and security violations
In closing, the General Directorate of Border Guards urged all citizens and residents to fully comply with regulations and instructions and to refrain from practices that could subject them to legal accountability. It also called on everyone to cooperate and immediately report any suspected violations or attacks on the environment and wildlife.
Violations can be reported by calling the designated emergency numbers: 911 in the Makkah, Riyadh, Eastern Province, and Madinah regions, and 994, 999, and 996 in the rest of the Kingdom. Security authorities emphasized that all reports are handled with complete confidentiality and without any legal repercussions for the reporter, reinforcing the principle of community partnership in maintaining security and protecting national assets.
