Makkah border guards rescue two residents whose boat broke down – details of the operation
As part of the ongoing humanitarian and security efforts undertaken by the General Directorate of Border Guards in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the maritime patrols of the Border Guards sector in the Makkah region were able to rescue two residents whose vessel suffered a sudden technical malfunction at sea.
This operation is part of a series of search and rescue operations carried out by the Border Guard teams with high efficiency. The Command and Control Center received a report that a vessel carrying two residents had broken down, causing the boat to run aground and preventing them from returning to shore. The boat's location was immediately pinpointed, and maritime patrols and specialized rescue teams were dispatched to the site to provide the necessary assistance.
The teams immediately began their work upon arrival, first ensuring the health and physical safety of the two residents, and then towing the disabled vessel safely to the designated berth. This incident underscores the high level of preparedness and rapid response demonstrated by the Coast Guard personnel in handling various emergencies and maritime incidents.
The importance of maritime safety and adherence to instructions
In a related context, the General Directorate of Border Guards reiterates its ongoing calls to all sea users, whether fishermen, recreational boaters, or water sports enthusiasts, to exercise caution and strictly adhere to maritime safety regulations. This includes ensuring the seaworthiness of vessels and conducting regular maintenance on engines and boat hulls before setting sail, to prevent malfunctions that could endanger lives.
The authorities also stress the importance of being equipped with the necessary safety and survival equipment, such as life jackets, communication and navigation devices (GPS), in addition to the need to continuously monitor weather conditions and forecasts before embarking on any sea voyage, and to avoid sailing in prohibited areas or under fluctuating weather conditions.
The vital role of the border guard in protecting the coasts
The Saudi Arabian Border Guard is the first line of defense for the Kingdom's coasts and borders. Its role extends beyond security and combating smuggling and infiltration to include a crucial humanitarian aspect: search and rescue (SAR) operations. The Makkah region is of particular importance due to its long Red Sea coastline and the high volume of maritime traffic, necessitating a continuous and intensive security and surveillance presence.
The Directorate urges everyone, in case of emergency or if any situation requiring assistance is observed, not to hesitate to contact the Border Guard emergency number (994), which is dedicated to receiving reports and providing the necessary assistance as quickly as possible.
