Buqayq Municipality organizes a workshop to promote food safety in establishments

In a move aimed at improving services for citizens and residents, the Buqayq Governorate Municipality, in cooperation with Arkan Training Center, organized a specialized workshop last Wednesday targeting owners of food preparation establishments and restaurants, as well as workers in this vital sector. This initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy through which the municipality seeks to promote food safety practices and ensure strict compliance with health regulations.

Context of strengthening health oversight in the Kingdom

This workshop is particularly important given the significant transformations taking place in the municipal sector in Saudi Arabia. Oversight is no longer limited to monitoring violations and imposing fines; it has evolved into a comprehensive system focused on awareness and prevention before resorting to penalties. The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, through its secretariats and municipalities, is working to instill the concept of "self-monitoring" within establishments, reflecting a qualitative leap in food safety management that aligns with international standards.

Workshop themes and strategic objectives

The workshop, which saw a remarkable turnout of representatives from more than 60 food establishments, focused on several key themes, most notably:

  • The concept of modern control: Clarifying the role of administrative leadership within the organization in implementing regulations.
  • Risk Management: Reviewing the most prominent biological, chemical, and physical risks that may threaten food safety and ways to prevent them.
  • Operational compliance: Highlighting global best practices in food storage, preparation, and serving to ensure safe delivery to the consumer.

These themes aimed to raise awareness of the approved regulations and systems, which directly contributes to reducing the percentage of observed violations and protecting the public health of the community.

Economic and social impact

The importance of such workshops extends beyond health to include a tangible economic impact. Establishments' adherence to health standards ensures the sustainability of their investments and protects them from closures or penalties that could damage their reputation. Furthermore, improving food quality enhances consumer confidence in the local market of Buqayq Governorate, thereby stimulating commercial and tourism activity in the region.

Alignment with Saudi Vision 2030

For his part, the Mayor of Buqayq Governorate, Engineer Mohammed bin Aftan Al-Dhafeeri, affirmed that this workshop is not a one-off event, but rather part of an ongoing series of awareness programs. He pointed out that these efforts directly contribute to achieving the objectives of the "Quality of Life Program," one of the most important programs of Saudi Vision 2030, which focuses on improving the lifestyle of individuals and families and building a society whose members enjoy a balanced lifestyle, as food safety is a fundamental pillar of public health and quality of life.

The meeting witnessed positive interaction and fruitful discussions between the inspectors and the owners of the establishments, where inquiries were answered and the practical mechanisms for implementing the requirements were clarified, reflecting the shared desire between the public and private sectors to improve the level of food services.
