Memorization of Sunnah and Texts Course at the Grand Mosque: Dates and Registration Requirements

In a move aimed at enhancing knowledge and reviving the scholarly mission of the Two Holy Mosques, the General Presidency for Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, represented by the Agency for Scientific and Guidance Affairs, announced the launch of a specialized academic course entitled "Memorizing the Prophetic Sunnah and Scholarly Texts." This unique program is part of a series of winter break programs targeting students of Islamic knowledge and visitors to the Grand Mosque in Mecca, aiming to deepen their religious awareness and strengthen their connection to authentic Islamic sources.

A beacon of knowledge throughout history

The organization of this course stems from the historical and cultural role that the Grand Mosque has played as a beacon of knowledge and learning since the dawn of Islam. The courtyards of the Holy Mosque have always been a cradle of scholars and study circles from which great jurists and hadith scholars have emerged. Through these initiatives, the General Presidency for Religious Affairs seeks to restore and solidify this illustrious image, recognizing that the Grand Mosque's role extends beyond mere worship and prayer; it serves as a global Islamic university that promotes moderation and preserves Islamic heritage, foremost among which is the purified Sunnah of the Prophet, the second source of Islamic law.

Schedule and location details

The Presidency explained in its detailed statement that the course will begin on Friday, 20 Rajab 1447 AH, and will continue for a full week until Friday, 27 Rajab 1447 AH. The King Fahd Expansion of the Grand Mosque has been designated to host the course sessions, which are designed to be intensive, with two sessions daily. The morning session begins after Fajr prayer and continues until 10:00 AM, while the afternoon session begins after Asr prayer and extends until Isha prayer, thus allowing participants ample time for learning and review.

Admission requirements and academic tracks

In order to ensure the quality of scientific output, the agency has set precise criteria for enrollment in the course that correspond to the levels of the prescribed texts, as follows:

  • The path of combining the two Sahihs: The participant is required to have memorized the entire Holy Quran.
  • The path to achieving the goal and the sufficiency of the contented: It is required to memorize half of the Holy Quran.
  • The path of Umdat al-Ahkam and Kitab al-Tawhid: It is required to memorize five parts of the Holy Quran.

Strategic and religious importance

This course is of particular importance given the growing need to ground Islamic knowledge in its principles and protect young people from foreign ideologies by connecting them to reliable scholarly texts. These efforts also reflect the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment to serving pilgrims to the Two Holy Mosques, not only in terms of organization and services, but also intellectually and spiritually, in line with its objectives of disseminating beneficial knowledge and facilitating access to it for the guests of God.

The Presidency concluded its announcement by emphasizing that the course will be supervised by a distinguished academic staff to ensure the educational process adheres to the highest standards. It also noted that valuable prizes and incentives will be awarded to outstanding participants, in addition to accredited certificates of completion upon program conclusion. Those interested in enrolling (men only) are encouraged to register via the designated online link, given the limited number of places and to ensure the seriousness of their applications.
