A person was caught violating environmental regulations in Hail for selling local firewood

As part of ongoing field efforts to protect vegetation and combat environmentally harmful practices, patrols of the General Directorate of Mujahideen in the Hail region were able to apprehend a citizen who violated the environmental regulations, as he was found in possession of quantities of local firewood offered for sale, which is a clear violation of the regulations in force in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The necessary legal measures were taken against the violator, and the seized items were handed over to the competent authorities to complete the legal procedures. This operation is part of a series of intensive inspection campaigns carried out by the Ministry of Interior to monitor the marketing, sale, and transport of local firewood and charcoal within cities and governorates, as well as on highways connecting regions, in addition to monitoring what is being circulated on electronic platforms regarding this matter.

The importance of protecting vegetation cover and combating desertification

These seizures are of paramount importance within the context of the Kingdom's National Environmental Strategy, which primarily aims to curb desertification, a phenomenon that has plagued the local environment for decades due to excessive logging. Preserving native trees and wild shrubs is a cornerstone of the "Green Saudi Arabia" initiative, which seeks to expand green spaces and combat climate change.

Cutting down native trees for firewood not only degrades the natural landscape but also disrupts the ecological balance, leads to biodiversity loss, and increases dust storms due to soil erosion. Therefore, authorities have tightened penalties for violators to deter anyone tempted to tamper with the nation's natural resources, while simultaneously encouraging the use of imported alternatives available in the market.

Corporate social responsibility and reporting figures

The Ministry of Interior and environmental authorities emphasize that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility between government agencies and members of society. Therefore, raising awareness about the dangers of purchasing local firewood directly contributes to stopping this illegal activity.

The General Directorate of Mujahideen urged all citizens and residents to cooperate and immediately report any instances of environmental or wildlife violations. Violations can be reported by calling 911 in the Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, and by calling 999 or 996 in the rest of the Kingdom.
