Childcare centers in the Holy Mosque in Mecca: Free 24-hour service

In a move reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s keenness to improve the system of services provided to visitors of the Two Holy Mosques, the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque launched the “Children’s Hospitality Centers” initiative, a strategic step aimed at providing a safe environment for children and enabling their parents to perform the rituals with ease and peace of mind.

Keeping pace with Vision 2030 and facilitating the pilgrim's journey

This initiative comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to achieve the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, specifically the Guests of God Service Program, which seeks to enrich the religious and cultural experience of visitors. These centers are of particular importance given the enormous crowds at the Grand Mosque, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, when many parents face challenges in maintaining focus and devotion during prayer or circumambulation when accompanied by children, in addition to concerns about the safety of youngsters amidst the crowds.

Free integrated services available 24/7

These model nurseries operate at full capacity throughout the holy month of Ramadan, providing continuous services 24 hours a day. What makes this initiative unique is that it is offered completely free of charge, easing the burden on pilgrims and visitors and ensuring their children receive top-quality care at no cost.

Strategic location and target audiences

The authority ensured that these centers were strategically located for easy access, situated in the third Saudi expansion area, specifically near gates 100 and 104. Age groups were precisely defined to guarantee appropriate care for each stage, and the centers receive:

  • Male children: from one and a half years old up to 6 years old.
  • Girls: from one and a half years old up to 9 years old.

A safe educational and recreational environment

These centers are not simply waiting rooms or "nurseries" in the traditional sense; they are designed to be integrated educational and recreational environments. They are staffed by specialized and trained personnel who offer a variety of programs, including:

  • Quranic education: Memorizing short surahs and teaching supplications in simplified ways.
  • Interactive activities: Physical and mental games that develop the child's skills.
  • Islamic values: Instilling authentic manners and values through meaningful stories.

Expected impact of the initiative

These centers are expected to significantly enhance the satisfaction of visitors to the Grand Mosque, allowing them to focus on worship and perform rituals with complete devotion, while having complete peace of mind knowing their children are in safe hands. This initiative also helps regulate crowd flow within the circumambulation area and prayer halls by reducing the presence of children in crowded areas, thus improving the smooth flow of movement and ensuring everyone's safety.
