Al-Hajri's statement wasn't limited to the current payment; he also addressed the program's cumulative achievements. The total amount disbursed by the Citizen's Account program to beneficiaries since its inception has exceeded 271 billion Saudi riyals. Historical context and objectives of the Citizen Account Program
The Citizen Account Program was established in late 2017, as one of the most important government initiatives related to the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. The launch of the program came as a proactive step to protect low and middle-income Saudi families from the direct and indirect consequences of economic reforms, such as adjusting energy and water product prices, and implementing value-added tax.
The program operates by providing direct financial support to eligible individuals based on clear criteria, including total family income, number of family members, and the ages of dependents. These criteria are reviewed periodically to ensure that support is effectively directed to those most in need.
Economic and social impact of subsidies
The continued injection of these billions monthly plays a pivotal role in stimulating the local economy. By boosting citizens' purchasing power, the support contributes to revitalizing local markets and bolstering the retail sector. On a social level, the program strengthens family stability and provides a financial safety net that contributes to raising the quality of life for Saudi citizens, in line with the Kingdom's strategic goals for sustainable development.
