Northern Borders Weather: Cold wave and frost hit Tarif

The National Center for Meteorology issued today an important warning to the residents of the Northern Borders region, specifically the Tarf governorate, regarding the region being exposed to a strong cold wave that directly affects temperatures and requires taking precautions.

The center explained in its report that the expected weather conditions include a significant and sharp drop in temperatures, with the minimum ranging from zero degrees Celsius to 3 degrees below zero, which creates the opportunity for frost to form on surfaces, roads and open areas.

Weather forecast timing and details

According to the weather forecast, the effects of this cold wave will begin at 1:00 AM on Thursday and will continue – God willing – until 8:00 AM that same day. This period represents the peak of the day's temperature drop, so caution is advised, especially for those who have to go out in the early morning hours for work or school.

Interesting... The geography of cold in the Kingdom

This drop in temperature is not surprising for the city of Tarif, located in the far northwest of Saudi Arabia. Historically and geographically, Tarif is known as one of the coldest Saudi cities, often recording the lowest temperatures during the winter months compared to other cities in the Kingdom. This is due to its high altitude and open geographical location, which makes it susceptible to cold air masses coming from the north, the Levant, and Europe.

The region experiences frequent frost waves and sometimes snowfall every year, which keeps its residents on constant alert during the winter months to deal with these harsh climatic conditions.

Safety recommendations and guidelines

In these extremely cold conditions, it is crucial to adhere to public safety guidelines issued by relevant authorities such as the Civil Defense and the Ministry of Health. Among the most important of these guidelines are:

  • Drive carefully: Due to the possibility of frost forming on the roads, which may cause vehicles to skid, it is advisable to maintain safe distances and reduce speed.
  • Heating methods: Be careful when using traditional (coal and firewood) or electric heating methods, and ensure that the place is well ventilated to avoid suffocation accidents or fires.
  • Winter clothing: Make sure to dress children and the elderly in heavy clothing to protect them from severe colds.
  • Agriculture and livestock sector: Farmers and livestock breeders are advised to take the necessary measures to protect their crops and livestock from the effects of frost and extreme cold that may harm production.

The National Center of Meteorology continues its vital role in monitoring climate changes and issuing early warnings, which contributes to raising the level of preparedness of government agencies and citizens to deal with different weather conditions.
