The cost of deploying Trump's forces in American cities will exceed half a billion dollars in 2025

Recent estimates released by the Congressional Budget Office on Wednesday revealed the exorbitant financial cost of President Donald Trump's security and military decisions, with the deployment of troops to American cities expected to cost around $500 million by the end of 2025. These figures highlight the economic burdens resulting from the current administration's domestic policies, amid widespread political debate about the effectiveness of these actions.

Financial details of the military deployment

According to the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Philip Swagel, the total cost of the deployments will reach $496 million by December 2025. Washington, D.C., topped the list of cities with the highest budget drain, costing $223 million, as more than 2,600 National Guard troops remain stationed in the city to maintain security and order. Los Angeles came in second with a cost of $193 million, and although its deployment was larger, it lasted for a shorter period compared to the capital.

The report noted that future costs remain uncertain and difficult to predict precisely, given their dependence on the scale, location, and duration of operations. However, estimates suggest that, at the current pace, monthly costs could range from $6 million for deploying 350 personnel in New Orleans to $55 million per month for forces deployed in Washington, D.C.

A tense political context and a power struggle

These moves come in a politically charged context, with President Trump ordering the deployment of troops to the streets of cities under Democratic control, justifying it as necessary to contain what he called "out-of-control unrest." This action reflects the escalating political polarization between the federal government and the states. Observers believe that the use of military force within the United States raises constitutional and legal questions about the limits of presidential authority in relation to local governments, and these decisions have faced legal challenges that have successfully halted troop deployments in some other areas.

External military escalation and its geopolitical implications

The policy of using force has not been confined to the United States alone, but has extended to bold foreign moves since Trump's return for a second term. In the Middle East, he ordered an air campaign in Yemen and strikes against Iranian nuclear sites, threatening to escalate regional tensions and potentially impact global energy markets. In America's immediate vicinity, the administration has adopted a more assertive approach toward South America, with US forces targeting drug-smuggling vessels in a high-profile operation that led to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, who were then brought to New York for trial—an unprecedented move that is reshaping the balance of power in Latin America.
