Developing 5 luggage storage centers in the Two Holy Mosques
A strategic step to serve the guests of God
In a strategic move aimed at enhancing the quality of services provided to pilgrims, the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques announced the development and modernization of five luggage storage centers. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to facilitate the movement of worshippers and pilgrims, and to ensure a safe and organized environment within the courtyards of the Two Holy Mosques, reflecting the commitment of the relevant authorities to providing the utmost comfort for visitors.
Historical context and the Kingdom's Vision 2030
Throughout history, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed great importance on developing the infrastructure of the Two Holy Mosques. With the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, these efforts have intensified to achieve the goal of hosting millions of pilgrims annually and providing them with the best logistical services. Providing luggage storage facilities at the Two Holy Mosques is not merely a secondary service, but an integral part of a comprehensive system aimed at enriching the religious experience and facilitating the performance of rituals. In the past, pilgrims faced difficulties in transporting their luggage, which caused congestion in the corridors and courtyards. However, with modern technological and organizational advancements, crowd management now relies on innovative solutions such as these centers to ensure smooth movement.
Details of luggage storage facilities in the Grand Mosque
The General Authority explained that the development plan included allocating four strategic centers within the Grand Mosque in Mecca. The locations of these centers were carefully chosen to ensure easy access for pilgrims. These locations include: the western courtyard behind Restroom No. 6, Ajyad Street next to Restroom No. 1, the eastern courtyard adjacent to the Mecca Library, and the services building in the Third Saudi Expansion after Shuter (3). To facilitate the handover process, designated points were established at the main entrances to the Grand Mosque: King Abdulaziz Gate (No. 1), King Fahd Gate (No. 79), the Umrah Gate, and Gate No. 100.
Establishing a new center in the Prophet's Mosque
Regarding the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, the Authority has expanded its services by establishing a new and advanced luggage storage center. This center is conveniently located between exits 365 and 366. Its aim is to serve visitors to the Prophet's Mosque, facilitating their movement within the courtyards and facilities with ease and convenience, eliminating the burden of carrying bags and personal belongings during prayers and visits.
Operation mechanism and service features
One of the most notable features of this meticulously organized service is that it is offered completely free of charge to all pilgrims. These centers operate 24/7 to meet the needs of visitors at any time. The authority has set a maximum storage period of four hours for luggage, ample time to perform rituals or prayers in complete comfort, thus ensuring that the largest possible number of visitors can benefit from this vital service.
Importance and expected impact
This development has a wide-ranging positive impact. Locally, it directly contributes to improved crowd management, reduced pedestrian traffic congestion, and enhanced cleanliness and security within the holy sites by preventing the littering of luggage. Regionally and internationally, these steps reflect the Kingdom's outstanding ability to efficiently and effectively manage the world's largest gatherings of people. Providing a barrier-free environment fosters tranquility and spirituality for pilgrims, making their religious journey a safe, convenient, and unforgettable experience.
