Donis under pressure ahead of Al-Nasr match
The Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation imposed a financial penalty of 40,000 riyals on the Greek coach of Al-Khaleej, Giorgos Donis, in addition to issuing an official warning to him not to insult the match officials and incite public opinion, following his media statements that came after his team’s match against Al-Ittihad in the Roshan Professional League.
The decision came after two violations were observed on the part of the Al-Khaleej coach. The first was his appearance at the press conference after the end of the match despite being sent off with a red card during the match, while the second was his media statements towards the match officials and his stirring up of public opinion.
The punishment issued so far has been limited to a financial penalty and a warning without suspension, which leaves the door open for Donis to be on the bench for Al-Khaleej in the upcoming match against Al-Nasr in the next round.
Should a suspension be issued later as a result of the red card, assistant coach Makis Siavim Angelinas will take charge of the team. He previously led Al-Khaleej in the match immediately following the Al-Ittihad game, during which they achieved a 2-1 victory over Al-Hazm
