Early childhood programs at King Abdulaziz University: 600 female students and a promising future
In a move reflecting the growing interest in the education sector and human capacity development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, King Abdulaziz University highlighted the advanced academic pathways of the Early Childhood Department, coinciding with the College of Human Sciences and Designs' celebration of World Children's Day 2025. This event came under the slogan "I express... with creative hands," amidst a high-level official and academic presence, which confirms the pivotal role that the university plays in shaping the future of education in the Kingdom.
Academic pathways that keep pace with global aspirations
Professor Dr. Nahla bint Mahmoud Qahwaji, Dean of the College of Human Sciences and Designs and Professor of Early Childhood Education, explained that the department represents a fundamental pillar in preparing national talent. She pointed out that the department not only grants a bachelor's degree in early childhood education, but also offers a specialized master's program comprising four specific tracks: teaching and learning, educational leadership in early childhood, learning disabilities, and giftedness and talent.
The department currently has about 600 female students in the undergraduate and master's levels, supervised by an elite group of academics who are graduates of the world's finest universities, which ensures the quality of educational outputs and supplies the labor market with qualified personnel according to the highest standards.
The importance of early childhood in the Kingdom's Vision 2030
These programs gain added importance when viewed within the broader national context, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its Vision 2030 and Human Capacity Development Program, places great emphasis on early childhood development. Global educational and economic studies indicate that investment in this age group is among the most profitable investments for nations, contributing to a solid foundation for a child's cognitive and behavioral growth. Hence, King Abdulaziz University plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between the growing need for qualified teachers and educational leaders and the demands of the modern educational field.
The "Children's Voices" project and international partnerships
The event, sponsored by His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of "Ahya'ha Al Insaniyah" (Reviving Humanity), and Her Highness Princess Sura bint Saud, featured an art exhibition as part of the "Children's Voices" project. This unique project is implemented in strategic partnership with the prestigious University College London (UCL) and the Bright Start Foundation, with the participation of children from ten schools in Jeddah.
The event aimed to promote children's right to self-expression, where vibrant colors blended with children's laughter in a stimulating environment conducive to creativity. Dr. Kahwaji emphasized that the exhibition embodied the children's vision and dreams, stressing the importance of providing educational environments that empower children to be active participants with a voice, a principle the department strives to instill through its curricula and ongoing activities.
