The Governor of the Eastern Province receives the Dominican Ambassador to enhance cooperation

In a diplomatic move aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation, His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, received His Excellency Andy Rodriguez Duran, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at his office in the Governorate building on Monday. His Highness welcomed the Ambassador, emphasizing the deep-rooted relations between the two friendly countries.

During the meeting, friendly conversations took place and a number of topics of common interest were reviewed, with a focus on ways to develop the partnership in various fields, especially economic, trade and cultural, in a way that serves the interests of the two peoples and promotes sustainable development in both countries.

Historical background and context of relations

This visit comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Dominican Republic, which were officially established in 2009. Since then, relations have witnessed steady growth, driven by a shared desire to explore promising opportunities. These efforts align with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the Saudi economy and build global strategic partnerships, while the Dominican Republic, as one of the leading tourist destinations in the Caribbean, aims to attract investment and tourists from the Gulf region.

The importance of the Eastern Province as an economic gateway

This meeting is particularly significant as it is being held in the Eastern Province, the Kingdom's industrial and economic capital. The region is home to the headquarters of Saudi Aramco, the world's largest energy company, as well as major industrial cities such as Jubail and Dammam. Its strategic location on the Arabian Gulf coast, along with its vital ports and international airports, makes it a major logistics and commercial hub, opening up vast opportunities for cooperation in the energy, petrochemical, manufacturing, and logistics sectors between the Kingdom and the Dominican Republic.

Expected impact and future prospects

This meeting is expected to accelerate cooperation between the two sides. Domestically, it could attract Dominican investment to development projects in the Eastern Province. Internationally, the meeting reflects the Kingdom's keenness to strengthen its relations with Latin American and Caribbean countries and diversify its partnerships beyond traditional allies. This rapprochement could pave the way for an exchange of expertise in the tourism sector, where the Dominican Republic has a leading experience, as well as opening new markets for Saudi products in the Caribbean, and vice versa. Such diplomatic meetings at the regional level within the Kingdom play a pivotal role in translating the state's strategic directions into practical and fruitful partnerships on the ground.
