Egypt continues its mediation efforts to prevent military escalation in Gaza

The Arab Republic of Egypt reaffirmed its strong commitment to preventing a renewed military escalation in the Gaza Strip, stressing the need to maintain the ceasefire and protect civilian lives. This reaffirmation comes within the framework of intensive diplomatic efforts led by Cairo to ensure stability in the Palestinian territories and to spare the region the horrors of a new war that could have disastrous repercussions for regional security and stability.

The historical role of Egyptian mediation

This stance is not new to Egyptian foreign policy; Cairo has long played the role of "honest broker" and key player in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, given its geographical proximity and deep historical ties with the Gaza Strip. Over the past decades, Egyptian General Intelligence has successfully brokered numerous ceasefire agreements between Palestinian factions and Israel, helping to prevent the loss of thousands of lives and averting a protracted and open conflict.

Humanitarian dimensions and the importance of the Rafah crossing

Egypt attaches paramount importance to the humanitarian dimension in the Gaza Strip, where the Rafah border crossing is considered the main lifeline for the Strip's residents. Cairo consistently links efforts to achieve de-escalation with the necessity of ensuring the continued flow of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid. The Egyptian leadership understands that any new military escalation will inevitably exacerbate the already dire humanitarian crisis in the Strip and hinder reconstruction efforts in which Egypt is directly involved.

Risks of the conflict spreading regionally

Egypt has consistently warned of the dangers of continued military escalation, noting that the violence in Gaza has repercussions far beyond the borders of the Strip, threatening to drag the entire region into a cycle of violence and instability. Egyptian diplomacy is working in coordination with key international players, such as the United States and the European Union, as well as regional partners, to press for a return to political negotiations as the only path to a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue, in accordance with international law.

The Egyptian vision for a permanent solution

Egypt affirms in all international forums that military solutions will not bring security to any party, and that lasting peace can only be achieved through a political horizon that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. From this standpoint, Cairo continues its intensive contacts with all relevant parties to ensure that the situation on the ground does not deteriorate, emphasizing that Egypt's national security is inextricably linked to stability in Gaza.
