Egypt appreciates the efforts of Saudi Arabia and the UAE in Yemen and their support for stability
The Arab Republic of Egypt affirmed its close and continuous monitoring of developments in the sisterly Republic of Yemen, expressing its full support for all efforts aimed at achieving stability and security in this pivotal Arab country. In this context, Cairo highly commended the constructive and central role played by both the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and their tireless pursuit of a comprehensive political solution that will end the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The pivotal role of Saudi Arabia and the UAE
The Egyptian praise comes at a sensitive time for the region, as Riyadh and Abu Dhabi play a leading role in supporting the legitimate Yemeni government, not only politically and militarily, but also economically and humanitarianly. This role has been demonstrated by the provision of financial support packages to the Central Bank of Yemen to bolster the local currency, in addition to massive humanitarian aid through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and the Emirates Red Crescent, which has helped alleviate the severity of the humanitarian crisis that the United Nations has described as the worst in the world.
Historical context and the importance of a political solution
The roots of the Yemeni crisis lie in years of conflict that have fragmented state institutions and threatened the social fabric of Yemen. Since the launch of the Arab Coalition operations, the strategic vision of Egypt and the Gulf states has been based on the necessity of restoring the Yemeni state and preserving Yemen's unity and territorial integrity. Cairo views the Riyadh Agreement and the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations as essential steps in the roadmap to peace, emphasizing that a military solution is not a substitute for a comprehensive national dialogue that includes all Yemeni parties under the auspices of the United Nations.
Strategic Dimensions and Arab National Security
The importance of stability in Yemen extends beyond domestic affairs to encompass broader Arab and regional national security. For Egypt, Yemen's security is an integral part of the security of the Red Sea region and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which serves as the southern gateway to the Suez Canal and a vital artery of global trade. Any threat to navigation in this waterway directly impacts the Egyptian and global economies. Therefore, Egypt's support for Saudi and Emirati efforts stems from a unified strategic vision aimed at securing international waterways and preventing Yemen from becoming a platform for threatening neighboring countries.
A call for unity and prioritizing the national interest
In concluding its statement, Egypt reiterated its call to all Yemeni parties to prioritize the supreme national interest, engage seriously in peace efforts, and respond to the international and regional initiatives underway. Cairo emphasized that continued Egyptian-Saudi-Emirati coordination is a cornerstone for safeguarding Arab national security and confronting the current challenges facing the region.
