Egypt reiterates its rejection of any infringement upon Somalia's unity and sovereignty

The Arab Republic of Egypt reaffirmed its unwavering and steadfast support for the unity and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia over all its territory, categorically rejecting any actions or movements that could undermine this unity or infringe upon Somali sovereignty. This reaffirmation comes within the framework of Egyptian foreign policy, which places great importance on the stability of the Horn of Africa region, considering it an integral part of Egyptian and Arab national security.
The importance of stability in the Horn of Africa
Cairo has repeatedly stressed in diplomatic forums that stability in Somalia is a cornerstone of security in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, two vital arteries for international trade and the Egyptian economy. Egypt views with concern any potential tensions in this crucial region, affirming that supporting the Somali Federal Government in its efforts to extend its authority and combat terrorism is the only way to guarantee regional security. Egypt believes that any attempts to circumvent the legitimate authority in Mogadishu will only serve to fuel conflicts and undermine development efforts in Africa.
The depth of historical relations between Egypt and Somalia
Egypt's positions are based on a long and deep-rooted history of fraternal relations between the Egyptian and Somali peoples. Egypt was among the first countries to support Somalia's independence and unity. Both countries share membership in the League of Arab States and the African Union, which strengthens joint coordination on all critical issues. The recent period has witnessed an intensification of reciprocal visits between senior officials of both countries, reflecting a shared desire to enhance bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, and security spheres.
Compliance with international laws and conventions
In a related context, Egypt called on the international community and regional actors to respect the principles of international law and the UN Charter, which clearly stipulates respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs. Egyptian diplomatic circles indicated that preserving the territorial integrity of Somalia is not merely a political choice, but a legal and moral obligation incumbent upon all member states of international organizations, warning of the grave consequences of fait accompli policies that could threaten international peace and security in East Africa.
