The preacher of the Grand Mosque: Surah Qaf and the signs of resurrection and the Day of Judgment

In a solemn and faith-filled atmosphere at the Grand Mosque, the Imam and preacher of the Grand Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Yasser Al-Dosari, addressed the contents of the great Surah Qaf in his Friday sermon, emphasizing that it included the most sublime goals and objectives of Islam, as it testified to the truthfulness of the prophets, peace be upon them, and established proof and evidence of the reality of resurrection and the Day of Judgment, which the polytheists denied.

His Eminence began his sermon by pointing out that God Almighty opened the chapter with one of the disjointed letters, which are opening letters carrying abundant rhetorical and miraculous significance, followed by an oath by the Glorious Quran. He explained that the opening of the chapter decisively refuted the doubts and denials of the polytheists regarding resurrection after death, describing this denial as stemming from astonishment and disbelief unsupported by evidence.

Signs of cosmic power and the revival of the earth

Dr. Al-Dossari continued, explaining that God Almighty has placed tangible signs and proofs throughout the universe, which, if the doubters were to contemplate them with insight, would lead them to abandon their error. In this chapter, God provides a concrete, tangible example of resurrection through the cycle of life on Earth; the rain falling upon the barren, lifeless land, its subsequent stirring with vegetation, and the emergence of fruit are all observable evidence of the Creator's power.

The preacher emphasized that the revival of the earth after its death is the rational and legal proof of the revival of man after his death, in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: “Such is the resurrection.” However, the obstinate ones disbelieved in God’s clear signs, so their loss was the most severe and greatest.

God's all-encompassing knowledge and the human soul

In another part of his sermon, the Imam of the Grand Mosque addressed the vastness of God's knowledge and His unique role in creation, citing the verse: "And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein." He explained that this verse instills in the believer's heart awe of God and awareness of His presence, for nothing is hidden from Him; He knows the innermost thoughts and whispers of the soul, and He is closer to His servant than his own blood vessels.

His Eminence pointed out that God has appointed two noble angels (Raqib and Atid) over man who record every small and large thing he does, and write down all his deeds and words, so they do not overlook anything, which requires man to constantly monitor himself and hold himself accountable before the Day of Reckoning.

The importance of Surah Qaf in the Prophet's guidance

The importance of this sermon comes in the context of reminding people of the Sunnah of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, as the Hadith sources and the Prophet’s biography indicate that the noble Messenger used to frequently recite Surah Qaf in large gatherings, such as the Eid and Friday prayers, because it contains a strong reminder of the beginning and the end, Paradise and Hell, and death and its agonies.

Dr. Al-Dossari concluded his sermon by reminding the congregation of the inevitability of death, and that it is the truth from which there is no escape, calling on the worshippers and all Muslims to prepare for the afterlife with good deeds and sincere repentance before the agony of death comes with the truth, and at that time regret will not be of any use and there will be no way back to make up for what has passed.
