Egypt defeats Tunisia and wins the African Handball Championship for the tenth time

The Egyptian national handball team achieved a new historic sporting achievement to add to its golden records, after winning the African Handball Championship title following its sweeping and wide victory over its traditional rival, the Tunisian national team, with a score of 37-24 in the final match that was held in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, today (Saturday).
Egypt had complete control over the proceedings of the meeting
The match was more than just a traditional final; it was a display of strength from the Pharaohs. The Egyptian national team finished the first half with a comfortable 17-10 lead, imposing their disciplined defensive and offensive style. In the second half, the Pharaohs continued their physical and technical dominance, extending their lead to 13 goals by the final whistle, securing their fourth consecutive title and their tenth overall, thus equaling the all-time record held by the Eagles of Carthage (Tunisia).
The Pharaohs' Dominance and the Clash of the Titans
This victory confirms the continuation of the golden era of Egyptian handball, which has reigned supreme in Africa in recent years. Matches between Egypt and Tunisia are considered the "classic" of African handball, with the two teams having dominated the continental championships throughout history. This win carries significant implications, most importantly breaking the psychological barrier and equaling the Tunisian record, thus placing Egypt at the top of the African pyramid alongside Tunisia in terms of the number of titles. It also reflects the success of the Egyptian Handball Federation's strategic planning in building successive generations capable of competing not only continentally but also globally.
Cape Verde continues its upward climb, with Algeria in fourth place
In the competition for honorable positions, Cape Verde proved they are no longer just a surprise, but a rising force to be reckoned with on the continent. In the third-place match, Cape Verde secured the bronze medal after defeating the established Algerian team 29-23, confirming the Desert Warriors' slight decline in the continental rankings and the emergence of new powers that threaten the established giants.

The victory wasn't the only gain; the tournament also shaped African representation at the upcoming global event. The top five teams – Egypt, Tunisia, Cape Verde, Algeria, and Angola – officially secured their places in the 2027 World Men's Handball Championship, scheduled to be held in Germany. Participating in the German World Championship presents a golden opportunity for African teams to compete against the strongest European schools of handball in the world's handball arena. Egypt, in particular, aspires to go far and compete for a place in the top four after its continental dominance.
