His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Foreign Minister, discussed with his counterpart Al-Shaibani the latest developments in the Syrian Arab Republic, within the framework of the ongoing diplomatic efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to enhance stability in the region and coordinate common Arab positions.
The meeting included a comprehensive review of the field and political developments on the Syrian scene, where both sides stressed the importance of making every possible effort to reach a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis that preserves Syria’s unity, security, stability and Arab identity, and ends all the repercussions of the crisis that has been ongoing for more than a decade.
Context of Saudi diplomatic moves
These talks are a continuation of the pivotal role Saudi Arabia has played since resuming diplomatic relations with Damascus and Syria's return to its seat in the Arab League during the Arab Summit held in Jeddah. Through these meetings, Riyadh seeks to revitalize joint Arab action to ensure Syria's reintegration into the Arab fold and to contribute to addressing the humanitarian and security consequences of years of conflict.
