Fire at new Aramco stadium brought under control in 10 minutes with no injuries

Civil Defense teams successfully contained a small fire that broke out at the Aramco stadium , which is still under construction in the Eastern Province, on Thursday. Specialized firefighting teams extinguished the blaze in a record time of just 10 minutes, preventing any injuries or significant damage to the project's structure.

According to field sources, as soon as smoke was detected rising from one side of the stadium's metal structure, the approved emergency plans were immediately activated. The project's safety teams, supported by the Civil Defense, began their work, following the strict safety protocols implemented by Saudi Aramco in all its major construction projects, which contributed to containing the situation very quickly.

The importance of the Aramco stadium project and its strategic location

This incident comes at a time when work is accelerating on the Aramco Stadium project, one of the most prominent future sporting landmarks in Saudi Arabia. Located in Al-Khobar, the stadium features a unique architectural design inspired by the "whirlpool" that symbolizes the waves of the Arabian Gulf, reflecting the region's coastal environment.

This project is of great strategic importance, as it is scheduled to be one of the main stadiums hosting the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, which will be held in the Kingdom, in addition to being a key pillar in the Kingdom's bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. The stadium has a capacity of approximately 47,000 spectators, making it a qualitative addition to the Saudi sports infrastructure within the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

Global safety standards and business continuity

Saudi Aramco is known for its adherence to the highest global health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards, which was clearly demonstrated in the company's rapid response and control of the limited fire. Following the completion of cooling and extinguishing operations, technical and engineering teams began site inspections and verification procedures to ensure that operations were not affected.

Initial indications confirm that the incident will not affect the project's timeline, as teams have resumed work according to schedule. The project is expected to be delivered on schedule, ready to host local and international sporting events and further solidify the Kingdom's position as a leading global sports destination.
