Wehrlein wins the fourth round of Formula E with Porsche strategy

In a thrilling and highly competitive race, German driver Pascal Wehrlein, star of the TAG Heuer Porsche team, stole the show during the fourth round of the Formula E electric car racing championship. Wehrlein proved that winning these races depends not only on top speed, but also, and perhaps more importantly, on strategic intelligence and the effective management of available resources on the track.
Energy strategy: The key to Porsche's success
In his post-race comments, Wehrlein emphasized that the team's strategy was the decisive factor behind the victory. He explained that modern electric racing demands a delicate balance between attack and defense, noting that maintaining the lead over the second-place finisher required exceptional battery management, particularly in the final five laps, which typically see significant resource depletion.
The German driver added: “I was able to widen the gap with Eduardo thanks to the intelligent use of the car’s technical settings. What was special about this race was the clean competition based on pure skill without the need for dangerous contact in the corners or pit stops, which reflects the maturity of the competition in the championship.”.
Challenges from competitors and the difficulty of overcoming them
On the other hand, the task wasn't easy for the other drivers. Swiss driver Edoardo Mortara of Mahindra Racing expressed mixed feelings after finishing second. Despite securing a podium finish, Mortara pointed out that the start wasn't ideal due to heavy traffic at the beginning of the race, a common problem on the narrow street circuits that characterize Formula E racing.
Mortara stressed the importance of the next round, emphasizing that the team needs stronger preparation and greater accuracy in calculating energy consumption to ensure competition for first place, and not just to settle for second place.
Attack system and race complexities
New Zealander Mitch Evans, the Jaguar TCS Racing driver who finished third, described the race as exceeding expectations in terms of both physical and mental difficulty. Evans highlighted the "Attack Mode" system, one of the most significant innovations in Formula E, which requires drivers to deviate from their ideal racing line and pass through designated activation zones to gain a temporary power boost.
Evans explained that this system adds an exciting competitive dimension for the fans, but it also places a significant burden on the drivers to make crucial decisions in fractions of a second. He concluded by emphasizing that securing third place under these conditions demonstrates the strength of the Jaguar team and its ability to manage crises on the track, expressing his hope for even better results in future races.
These results reflect the great development that electric motorsport is witnessing, where technology and energy management efficiency are playing a role that is equal to the driver’s skill, making every round a lesson in tactics and speed.
