Half a million people benefit from free ablution at the Grand Mosque during Ramadan
Exceptional efforts in serving the pilgrims during the month of Ramadan
The General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques has released its official and final statistics for the holy month of Ramadan, recording record numbers that reflect the scale of the efforts exerted. The Authority successfully provided a wide range of logistical and field services to pilgrims, with the free exit from ihram at the Grand Mosque topping the list, attracting approximately 488,067 pilgrims. This initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at facilitating the performance of rituals and providing a safe and healthy environment for pilgrims.
Historical context and religious significance of the service of dissolution
The ritual of removing one's hair (shaving or trimming it) is a fundamental requirement for completing the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages in Islamic law. Historically, pilgrims faced numerous challenges in finding places to shave or trim their hair around the Grand Mosque in Mecca, sometimes leading to chaotic overcrowding, exploitation by unlicensed barbers, and health risks due to poor hygiene. This highlighted the importance of Saudi government intervention to regulate this ritual. The provision of free hair removal services at the Grand Mosque represents a significant advancement in the services offered, ensuring pilgrims receive a high-quality, safe, and completely free service immediately after completing the Sa'i (ritual walking between Safa and Marwa).
Integrated operational system and strict health standards
These services are provided through an integrated, round-the-clock operational system to ensure the comfort of visitors. The service is delivered through strategically located distribution points within the Grand Mosque and its surrounding courtyards. This carefully planned geographical distribution aims to guarantee easy access, smooth traffic flow in crowded areas, and prevent any congestion that might impede pedestrian movement.
The authority relies on highly qualified personnel to provide the sterilization service, ensuring speed and efficiency. Most importantly, it adheres strictly to the highest standards of public safety, personal hygiene, and field cleanliness through the use of sterilized, single-use equipment, reflecting the Kingdom's commitment to the health of pilgrims.
The local and international impact of successful operational plans
Domestically, these impressive figures recorded during the holy month reflect the overwhelming demand and absolute confidence in the services provided by the state, confirming the success of the operational plans implemented by the authority to manage the large crowds. This success also aligns with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to enhance the quality of services provided to pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah.
On both regional and international levels, providing such free and organized services to hundreds of thousands of people in record time and in one location solidifies the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's position as a leading nation in crowd management. It also conveys a positive and bright image to the entire Muslim world of the care and attention given to pilgrims visiting the Two Holy Mosques.
Enhancing the spiritual experience of pilgrims
The Authority's development plans aim to enhance the flow of movement within the Grand Mosque and its courtyards, ensuring no overcrowding at vital service points. This meticulous organization directly contributes to providing a seamless spiritual experience, allowing pilgrims to fully concentrate on their worship and rituals without being distracted by logistical details. These initiatives are part of a package of high-quality field services that have been developed both technologically and in terms of human resources to keep pace with the steady increase in the number of visitors to the Grand Mosque, with a focus on the sustainability of solutions that make the pilgrim's journey a pleasant and memorable experience characterized by ease, comfort, and peace of mind.
Quality control and sustainability of excellence
The Authority affirms its commitment to continuously monitoring the quality of field performance and developing the tools used in service delivery, in line with aspirations to enhance services provided to pilgrims during peak seasons. Field teams are working at full capacity to ensure the continued provision of the Tahallul (performing the ritual purification ritual) and other support services at the same high level until the end of the season. This is based on a precise database that monitors actual needs and directs resources to the areas of greatest need, effectively contributing to the remarkable success witnessed during the Umrah season.
