  • 5082 permits for exceptional loads: This is the largest number, indicating an active logistical transport movement that requires careful regulation to ensure the safety of roads and bridges from excess weights.
  • 237 permits for excavation work: to ensure that construction and service works are carried out in accordance with approved technical standards.
  • 189 requests for clearance: to ensure that the road condition is restored to normal after the completion of the works.
  • 3 permits for drilling extension: to complete existing projects.

The importance of organization and the strategic role of the Authority

These figures underscore the pivotal role of the General Authority for Roads as a regulatory and supervisory body responsible for governing the roads sector. Since its establishment, the Authority has been committed to implementing the highest standards of quality and safety. These permits contribute to preventing encroachments on road rights-of-way, reducing risks arising from unauthorized construction, and ensuring smooth traffic flow during project implementation.

The electronic permit issuance service is an important step in the sector’s digital transformation journey, as it aims to facilitate procedures for companies and investors, and enhance the beneficiaries’ experience, thus supporting the investment environment in the Kingdom and accelerating the pace of development projects.

Ambitious targets for the roads sector

Through these regulatory efforts, the Authority seeks to achieve ambitious strategic goals within the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which include:

  • Achieving sixth place globally in the road quality index.
  • Reduce road fatalities to less than 5 deaths per 100,000 people .
  • Coverage of the road network with safety factors according to the International Road Assessment Programme (IRAP) classification.

Adherence to these standards and issuing the necessary permits is not merely an administrative procedure, but a fundamental pillar for preserving national assets of road networks, which are the lifeblood of the national economy and the movement of people between the regions of the Kingdom.
